Stoke on Trent and Newcastle under Lyme nightlife was really good from the early 1980s to the early 1990s. By 1992 it was in decline! Back then you had all sorts of clubs for all sorts of tastes.

I knew Valleys closed to become a casino but didn’t realise The Place was gone too. I emigrated to the states in 2003 so didn’t realise they’d gone. Honourable mention to The Void on Glass Street too which had Golden. It’s now a car park. Basically all the places I went to in the 90s closed. Still remember the fair out the back of Valleys on some summer nights and seeing Robbie Williams getting chased up Etruria Road one night. Fun times!

If you went clubbing in the area from 1999 to 2008 then you missed the best years of North Staffordshire nightlife which was from about 1980 until about 1992. Back then there was a large variety of good quality venues for every taste in music and style. You had great rock venues, alternative venues and great mainstream disco bars and clubs.

I used to be a bouncer at Quencher's (now Pink) and then Chico's in the early 80s - I was only 18. I miss the old Hanley as nowadays it's just a sh*thole. Even the old bus station/precinct was miles better than what there is now. Too many old buildings which had character have been demolished. It's lost its soul unfortunately.
