A most enjoyable timescape...how nostalgia pulls at the old heart strings!

Interesting to see the trams on Snow Hill. when the line was first constructed the landlord of the Bell and Bear organised a protest movement against it. Some things don't change.

Ah the good old days of rickets, polio, smallpox, tuberculosis, no health and safety and high death during child birth.

meddle class sections of Shelton looked better and why it was not full of scroungers from 1950s into the 1970's full employment with good wages let say the demise happened from 1979 onwards..

Great video. Born in Stoke on Trent. Can just about remember some of the old footage. How great & bustling it used to look. Now it's just full of car parks and dereliction. Very very sad.

What a waste of such lovely buildings -.but as they say progress. Or maybe I'm looking through rose tinted glasses

I enjoyed the movie, recognised some of the places. A tag identifying them would have been helpfull.

Great to see these, especially Boughey Rd, Shelton where I was born and lived for 21 years.

Stoke was once a bustling hive of activity, full of industry. The pits, pot banks and steelworks, all gone, like they never even existed. Replaced with vast tracts of open derelict landscapes, and thousands of immigrants. Still reaping the rewards of Thatcher's almighty fuck up.
@simonr27492 жыл бұрын
Stoke always had 1000s of immigrants. My great great grandfather and great grandfather were some of the 1000s of immigrants who came from Ireland to work in the iron furnaces and brickyards. Without them none of the industries you list would ever have existed. They had black faces too - black from coal and dirt.
@RSR4232 жыл бұрын
@@simonr2749 That was British jobs for British people, big difference, as for "Iron furnaces" there was only one in Stoke, the Bar at Shelton.

@@simonr2749 you need to get your brain checked when is Ireland part of Britain?
@RSR4232 жыл бұрын
@@simonr2749 Irish are from the British Isles, massive difference. As for your ignorant and idiotic spewing of "without them there would of been no industries," just proves how little you actually know.

Not sure about all of these, but willing to stand corrected....0:07 to 00:20 is view down Rectory Rd from near St Marks St and Wheatsheaf pub junction. 00:36 looks like new housing on what used to be Mare's field/College Road looking towards Washington Pottery. 00:48 is a (northbound) view approaching the roundabout at Broad St from Stoke Road (Pyenest St out of view to the left, with Norfolk St opposite to the right). 00:49 to 1:12 is Snow Hill with the mock tudor 'Bell and Bear' pub with Shelton Church towering in the background. 01:14 to 01:22 is a view of Havelock Place from Shearer St. Havelock Place was a private road for many years, hence why I believe the gates are shown. Shelton Church in the background. 01:31 is Bedford St (behind you would be the Cauldon Canal, forwards would be Bedford Rd at the junction of Rectory Rd. I think 01:44 to 01:55 is a view from the Cauldon Canal looking over Davis St. 01:55 to 02:06 is Avenue Road (view from Stoke Rd). 02:20 to 02:29 is Leek Road/Boughey Ro junction. 03:02 to 03:12 is Glebe Street/Station Rd junction. 03:57 looks like London Rd Stoke

All totally correct , at the time of compiling the video it was meant as a reminder of days gone by , but also a test of people's memory to bring stories of the areas shown

I was wandering why I didn't recognise Shelton it's because more than half the buildings have gone and I lived there from 12 -18 went back in the 90s for a little while but most of that's gone.
