Oh that would work better as an alternative Meet the Spy Outtakes indeed. I mean no offense but while beautifully animated and all,when you compare it to the rest of the monologues in Meet the Team...this one is kinda empty because it lacks any bit of gameplay. Let's recap Meet the Team,the bits of gameplay: Heavy is shown using Sasha , Soldier destroys a sentry and rocket jumps to a roof and then hits a spy, Demoman has a very well mixed monologue with gameplay, Engineer is kinda weird but hey sentry guns, Sniper talks about his job and shows you around how he does it and finally the Spy...well you already know that. Scout doesn't really count because we'll,it's just his intro and the rest is just him wrestling a Heavy,not strategically shooting or something which basically shows nothing.

The reason that the Spy didn't end up having this "leader" spirit is in my opinion the fact that he isnt there to make money or be the leader. He is there to protect his son, Scout. And so he does what is needed to protect him, or just... keep an eye out on him in his mean, tough-love way. That is the reason they changed it... I think.

While real life reason for spy is Team Fortress glitch turned into stand alone class, Spy being Scout's father gives pretty good in-game explanation for him being there. Other metrics there for the money (Scout, Sniper, Demo), fled from their country of origin (Heavy, Medic), or are simply insane (Soldier, Pyro) Besides Engi, Spy is the only one who does need work for the contract, and giving him personal reason fixes that. If you mean that his gameplay is not very protective, my man is secret agent. What you want him to do, headshot everyone with his revolver? He already tried it and got nerfed to the ground.

No, "Your Mother" was said before Meet the Spy. I heard it in other online games in the 2 to 3 years leading up to Meet The Spy, and it almost might as well have been a meme of its own even without TF2. It usually seemed to be a petty insult from my own team, or from people who for whatever reason never simply said "I'm just messing with you, don't worry" and it was usually in Call of Duty games. (Go figure?)

Alternatively: What if, the cinematic started with a clip of the blue team being massacred, then cuts to the speech in the blue base, where the blue spy is rallying the team after their defeat, with cross-cuts of him using his abilities during the battle shown at the start. Then, the blue team gets ready and heads out, running right into an ambush, and right as their medic is about to uber, sniper is about to headshot the Red medic, or some other game changing event, the blue spy, who was actually the red spy, backstabs them, leading the blue team to be slaughtered. The camera then pans out to reveal the dead blue team and how the 'blue' spy sabotaged them during the ambush he rallied them into, eventually showing the blue spy dead, his body hidden somewhere by the red spy, who took on his identity. It shows the abilities from either perspective and the power of spy in team battles, with the classic twist at the end. Nonetheless, the one you fellows made was absolutely fantastic:)

I still love the one we got, but this suggestion makes more sense for a 'meet the' video that's consistent with most of the others (that being dialogue and gameplay style footage spliced together). I think this short could’ve worked a lot better simply by changing the ending. Instead of spy just finishing his speech the rest of the team gets pumped and runs out of the room ready to fight, meanwhile spy stays behind and starts laughing as he changes color to blu, it would then cut to the rest of the red team running out to fight while the announcer says that the intelligence has been taken then scout says like “ah come on” or something cutting to the tf2 logo.

Ok, this is a really good find for sure. And the recreation is really well animated, but I really doubt the tf2 team would animate this as Spy giving his own team a speech. That would be way to meet the heavy/engineer esque. I think it definitely would have had some action sequences that showcases his tools, and some kind of after promo scene at the end, like meet the sniper/scout. Like "the man can be whatever is man enough to be" is 100% a reference to his disguise kit, but more so a tease per say. The "warehouses (No n@ughty word, thx YT) are safer tonight for your absence" seems like it would follow a kill by the spy. The "alone any of you bad men could be the Ceaser of his local sewer" is definitely a reference to the 2fort sewer, my bet is he either kills an engineer or a demoman. He definitely killed 3 enemy mercs considering he is listing 6 traits: Flame retardancy (Pyro), Rage(?), Brains(?),Brawn(Heavy),Accuracy(Sniper), Speed(Scout). Him saying "disorder the natural state of nature is cheap to create" definitely would show the paranoia between the enemy mercs, and implies the enemy spy is as powerful as mother nature itself. "Nature abhors a team gentleman... we UNNATURAL brothers" is 100% a call to arms against the spy, and the final sentence is a promise that they are going to murder that "beach" spy. I think what the likely structure was: - Blue spy says "warehouses are safer tonight for your absence" -- then it cuts to Red spy killing a drunk demoman with a backstab either silently using the invis watch, or loudly like the sniper and then using him as a disguise. -Then Blue Spy says "alone any of you bad men could be the Ceaser of his local sewer". -Cut to Engi hanging out inside the sewer with his toys, and the Red Spy fools the Engi with a drunk demoman act he saps his toys, and shoots Engi in the head. -After that maybe Shork's recreation happened, but with a more disorganized paranoid blue team. -The after promo scene would be a motivated Blu team leaving the intelligence room to hunt for Red Spy. But in actuality Red Spy pretended to be the Blu Spy during the entire speech, so he is able to take the intelligence and leave. I think the likelier reason this version got canceled is, because and to quote the finalized short "It was obvious he is Red Spy". Again it's super likely that this Spy is the Red Spy pretending to be the Blu Spy, considering: -2 mercs are missing during this speech or monolog. -Him naming the Pyro's strength as Flame retardancy is a backhanded compliment at best. -And him comparing the enemy spy to mother nature sound more like he is the president of his fan club. If you asked me Scout's mother really spiced up the final short.

New stuff could be found *much* later. In 2019 (unrelated to TF2,) there was a lost Betty Boop cartoon from 1938 that was unearthed in Russia. It's "Buzzy Boop at the Opera,"* not one of the most entertaining episodes IMHO, but it's nice to know it wasn't lost forever like a bunch of early media in the 1930s due to film and storage fires. I'm still disappointed at the huge 1937 Fox Films Fire, no doubt Pyro would have had a great day though. * Buzzy Boop is Betty Boop's younger "helpful prankster" tomboy cousin, who only appeared in 2 episodes.

You all forgot that it's unconfirmed for this monologue to be the original "meet the spy" video, it's just an audio recorded. Whatever that was meant to be used for is unknown. And sure, for it being the "meet the spy" is possible, but it's not confirmed. Shork just found this audio and thought that it was the "meet the spy" immidiatedly, that's not.... That's not just "oh so it is meet the spy then".
