THIS IS BY FAR THE LOUDEST CONCRETE I HAVE EVER HEARD!!!! Although it may not sound super loud in the video, TRUST ME IT IS as it’s like 100 TIMES LOUDER IN PERSON!!!!
This was filmed on the on-ramp to I-70 Eastbound from exit 80 near West Jefferson, OH.
This is a VERY RARE low pitched variation of FDOT that I don’t believe has been found anywhere else!! It’s by far the lowest pitched variation of FDOT I’ve heard yet!!
The whole highway used to be grooved with this for about 5 miles past this point but it was only the eastbound lanes and has since been replaced with asphalt sometime around 2019 but the off and on ramp at exit 80 was left original.
It really sucks that ODOT replaced one of the best sounding concrete sections in the state but it makes since as it was in poor condition and people probably complained about how loud it was!!
Here is a video of it before it was replaced: • Interstate 70 - Ohio (...

Fun Fact: As far as I'm concerned, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, New Jersey, and Texas(Only on the Galveston Causeway), uses the same groove pattern as Florida's.

I’m pretty sure that was the old concrete on i-70 west of Columbus before it became asphalt. It’s weird how it’s that Ohio 2000’s bridge/Indiana style concrete vs. normal high pitched concrete but neat though

I remember that old pavement existed in the 2010s as well, at least until 2019. They still exist now in the 2020s as well, but ever since 2019ish I would say, they’ve been replacing those bridge sounds.

I drove over the Galveston Causeway, and it sounded so loud, also I drove on the Katy Freeway, and it was quite, because the grooving went vertically

Sounds like some of the off-ramps in Phoenix. Just recently, AZDOT removed rubberized asphalt from most freeways after reaching its lifespan. Some lanes or segments have different groove sounds depending on the year they were built.

What causes this sound? Concrete runways also produce this type of sound when aircraft taxi on them. Is it the grooving pattern? Because smooth concrete roads still create a high pitched sound.
@asmrroader72
@asmrroader72 7 ай бұрын
It is the grooves that makes the noise. I’m honestly not sure what kind of noise you’re hearing on ungrooved concrete as it usually doesn’t make a distinct sound. It can be quieter than asphalt but that’s about it.
@beni2cc

I'm Houston there's roads that are ungroved that make that noise. My theory is that it's the rebar whistling because of the vibrations.
