You seem to be confused! Here is an easy to understand explanation of the differences between an echo and reverberation. The difference between **echo** and **reverberation** lies primarily in the nature of sound reflections and the environment in which they occur: ### **Echo** (in an open area): - **Definition**: An echo is a distinct, delayed repetition of a sound that occurs when sound waves reflect off a surface and travel back to the listener after a noticeable time gap (typically more than 0.1 seconds). - **Environment**: Commonly occurs in open areas with distant reflective surfaces, such as cliffs, mountains, or large buildings. - **Characteristics**: - The original sound and its reflection are clearly distinguishable. - The delay is due to the long distance the reflected sound travels before reaching the listener. - E.g., shouting in a canyon and hearing your voice repeated. ### **Reverberation** (in an enclosed area): - **Definition**: Reverberation is the persistence of sound caused by the reflection of sound waves within an enclosed or semi-enclosed space, resulting in a blending of the original sound and its reflections. - **Environment**: Occurs in enclosed or partially enclosed spaces like concert halls, rooms, or auditoriums with multiple reflective surfaces. - **Characteristics**: - The reflections occur in quick succession, typically within 0.1 seconds. - These reflections overlap and combine with the original sound, making them indistinguishable from each other. - Reverberation creates a sense of "fullness" or "depth" in the sound. - E.g., the lingering sound of clapping in a hall. ### Key Factors That Differentiate Echo and Reverberation: | **Aspect** | **Echo** | **Reverberation** | |----------------------|---------------------------------------|---------------------------------------| | **Time Delay** | Noticeable (>0.1 seconds) | Very short (

Depends on the environment and terrain. fog horns have bin reportedly heard from 20 to sometimes 40 miles (32-64 km). how ever, one such fog horn that was once used at the Brier island Lighthouse in Nova Scotia Canada was said to be heard in Eastport Maine USA which is a little over 53 miles (86 km) away.

This particular location is sometimes very good for good echoes. But at other times, if there's wind and fog, there would be practically no echo.

I used a 6 inch to 4 inch reducer, stuck a 4 inch pipe through, then installed the diaphragm. I glued the diaphragm on a 6 inch piece, cut a small section of 6 inch pipe to hold the diaphragm in place, and a back cap to hold a spring to give it more tension. It was mostly done on an engine lathe. On my channel, my first video that has the most views shows that the power chamber and a little details. I'm working on a video dedicated on the assembly. Stay tuned.

Short rhythmic pulses don't work well here. You're sounding off the unique deformations of the landscape which ends up sounding muddy. It's the long notes that create the 'chord' for the location.

plastic vs. steel? My horn cannot be compared to heavy-duty commercial ship horn. The bell on mine is aluminum, and the power chamber is plastic with an aluminum diaphragm. The commercial ship horns are pure steel and very duty, being able to withstand extreme air pressure, extremely durable, being able to withstand harsh weather conditions. If I had a steel power chamber for my horn, I could add a thicker diaphragm, plus I could add way more tension, and I wouldn't have to worry about it exploding on me. My plastic power chamber could explode on me if I added too much tension to the diaphragm. Plastic is not made for high air pressure.
@BigHorndb1887 күн бұрын
It's probably the recording that makes my horn sound weak
