That silent room gives a surprisingly good spectacle of how fast Sound waves travel. You hear it and then it just cuts off abruptly without a trace. Thats the sound that would normally bounce around a little being absorbed into the walls instead. Idk, maybe it’s just me, but i find it incredibly interesting to be able to hear how fast it disperses.
@AngelinaParker12 ай бұрын
Me too.
@EllipticGeometry2 ай бұрын
It’s the other way around if anything. In a typical room, sound dissipates appreciably in a decent fraction of a second. That corresponds to tens of bounces in a major room mode, or hundreds of meters of travel. Each bounce takes away so little that it would seem sound travels more slowly than it actually does, given the huge difference an anechoic chamber makes.
@johnjhonson-j3u2 ай бұрын
@@EllipticGeometryI agree I think it shows how perceivable the speed of sound actually is and how astronomically far off it is from light. For example in my 2 story house there are certain spots where I can get a tail of almost 2 seconds off of a snap or a clap which itself is an instantaneous burst. I’m not saying it’s slow but it’s slow enough that the difference we perceive in an anechoic is well beyond perceptible even in tighter spaces. The air always takes a moment to get back to equilibrium. I think the best way to get a solid gauge of the speed of sound is to watch fireworks from a known distance. Say you’re 3 football fields (roughly 300 meters or yards) away from the actual blast. You’re going to see the explosion and then about a second later you’re going to hear the explosion. It’s the exact same feeling as watching a video where the audio is desynced and the words aren’t lining up with the lip movements. Roughly 3 football fields in one second is still super fast for say, a person or a car, but when sound is bouncing back and forth within a space closed space, a single wave peak can travel much further than that before it dissipates into unintelligibility.

You don’t need a quit room or loud when you’re deaf. The quietest thing you can do is to take off your colar implants and let the buzzing static noise hit you as your brain makes up sounds to make it feel like it’s never quiet no matter how hard you try. The loudest thing you can do is put them back on after hours and get hit with the loud noises you are yet to get use too. It’s something you have to think about and many people feel bad that I’m deaf. But I love it.

If they deadened the sound just a little, it would lower people's stress levels and reduce fights. That makes too much sense though so it will never be done. Also jails view herbs, spices, and salt as nothing more than flavor so they don't allow any. That causes nutrient deficiencies, despite adequate calorie intake. That can cause all sorts of behavioral problems. Instead of fixing the root of the problem they turn to pills. Makes more money that way!

Too dead like I tried to tell the "rapper" (which we know means they mix all in the box with shit monitors in a untreated room in their house with very shit techniques they picked up from KZbin videos) these are more for testing as the conditions of the room are extreme. A memory I’ll always have is my friends and I After having a little to drink and going to the art studio to do some painting, etc. decided to explore and see where we could get into on the arts building. Mind you it’s 1-2am. We went to the theatre and had a mock play put on and we’re about to head home until we checked one last door. The wardrobe closet. About a 50-75 foot pretty narrow hallway with clothes and costumes handing on either side with enough space in between for one person to walk down. We instantly noticed how muffled our voices were. Then my buddy sprinted down to the other end yelling the entire way and about halfway down he sounded a football field away. Then at the very end I couldn’t hear him at all. Mind you having a little to drink and a little to smoke we were in pure amazement and continued to go back and show people the “magical corridor of west lib” were we’d make bets with people swearing they’ll be able to hear someone screaming at the end of a 50-70ft hallway. Have been fascinated by sound since then.

@@DropIt56 of course. There are many ways. Most common method for us is to drill and fill. We drill sets of holes in between each rafters and fill the cavity with fiberglass blow or cellulose. It’s a lot of work involved though. Very messy. You would need to get further work done after the insulation process. Spackle, sand, primer, paint…… It makes a world of difference to your heating bills and makes your house significantly more comfortable, cozy and dulls out the sounds from outside.
