Louisiana Hikes

6 жыл бұрын

My recent (5/14 to 5/17/2018) hike of the 60-mile Louisiana Trail.
Yes, you read that right, a 60-mile trail in Louisiana! Primarily used by ATVs, this multi-use trail is also accessible to hikers. As far as the organizers of this trail know, I am the first person to attempt a thru-hike of this trail and I completed it in 4 days. The trail was built and is managed by the non-profit organization Louisiana Trails. Their President, Doug Harris and Vice President, Ted Riser, were instrumental to my successful hike, by providing logistical support to and from the trailheads. The trail crosses through 4 Parish lines and several small towns. I plan to produce a trail guide for anyone who wants to attempt this hike.
I am pretty open with my likes and dislikes about this trail. I attempted this trip during a heat wave and that contributed to some of my struggles. Overall, I think this trail is a good challenge but do not expect a wilderness experience with a lot of natural beauty. This trail is a unique experience and I hope this video, and forthcoming trail guide, will help future hikers have a realistic expectation for their trip.

The amount of entertainment and comfort this channel brought me in the past two weeks is insane. I’ve been binge watching. All I could do was cry when I found out that Eric passed. I really feel like I’ve been getting to know my buddy. Eric your work is greatly appreciated ❤ See you on the trail

Until now I didn't know about this trail. Sounds like it would be better hiked in cooler weather. Maybe in your trail guide you could recommend that a container with rope attached needs to be carried to resupply water from those bridges. Enjoyed the video, thanks.

Other than the 4-wheeler stretch, it looks like a good new trail in Louisiana. When I do the trail, I will do the up trail old RR track that parallels the 4-wheeler trail that you took.

Yeah the trail is in decent shape except for the section from Lawhon to Heflin. Thanks for watching!

Never a good choice to have a multi use trail. The ATV's will always tear them up. Thanks for sharing.

I think this is especially true for the areas close to towns where people have easy access. The Sandstone trail in Kisatchie NF is multiuse but in much better condition due to its secluded location.

I’ve wanted to do this for years on my 4 wheeler. But I’ve always heard idiots destroy the trails with their huge tires. They need to catch the people that have large grips and fine them.

I just used Alltrails to print out my maps. The trail itself is on Google maps and that is how I planned where to stop in the small towns. Otherwise, my camping spots were just based on daily mileage and luck! Hahaha

What is your pack weight generally?
@EricHeber
@EricHeber 6 жыл бұрын
Depends on the weather. For this trip with four days of food, probably around 18lbs. It was pretty warm so probably the lightest my pack will be.
