Hey brother Eric. I miss you. I'm thankful for you. I never got to meet you personally but thank you for all You've done. My son and I are planning to do this next hike together here at the end of June. We did the backbone trail together a week or two ago and I thought about you while I was out there.

Thanks for the video, and the article on LAHikes that leads here! I'm doing this trail this weekend with 2 or 3 friends - all our first time backbacking. Do you recommend tacking this trail in this direction? We were planning to park at the Caroline Dorman trailhead and walk the road trail first, then camp before Bayou Cypre. TIA!

It's hard to believe you are in Oklahoma - I know there are hills there, but I always picture it as flat prairie, so this is rather mind-blowing. The scenery looks almost exactly like that found on the trails where I live in western NC.

I just heard about this in a comment section about abandoned channels and what happened to people by Wayywebsurf and just hearing the story really messed with my day so I came here to see if the person was telling the truth about this channel. I just wanted to say this is a beautiful memorial to whoever Eric was as a person

I really was hoping to meet him one day. I still think we need to name the kisatchie loop after Eric. He deserves a trail named after him.

Could this be one of Eric's signature quotes to remember him by? What a way to honor him. He was both encouraged by this quote and encouraged us with it: 1:08:29 "The more difficult the journey, the more rewarding the finish."

Go to 40:07 and listen thru to 43:29 for an excellent explanation about why people like me choose to hike. Eric, I wish you were still with us, brother. But the spirit of who you are and what you did will continue

My son and a friend want to hike this trail. The plan is for me to meet them along the way, at Airey lake, and camp overnight, then I will drive on to POW. This was a great Overview for me.

I often scroll through my saved pics and videos from when my ex-fiance and I were together, just so that I can cherish the memories and emotions that come with them. One of those cherished memories is our first real trip/date together, which was a hike at Tunica Hills. Tonight, I really miss her, so I wished there was a video of a hike on the Tunica Hills Trail A, and sure enough, I found Eric's video. I watched the entire thing and boy, did I enjoy it! So many emotions came back. Eric's calmness and genuine care for nature immediately stood out in the video, prompting me to look up more about him. Sadly, I discovered that he has passed away. My heart breaks for his family and his precious daughter, whom I noticed he often hiked with. If his family reads this, I hope you know that Eric's spirit lives on, and even now, he has the ability to touch new people, like myself. I don't know why I'm writing this, but I felt a warm push urging me to share my thoughts. So, I hope anyone who reads this finds a reason to smile today! Life is short, love is real, and God is good!

Hey Brother we moved from Louisiana to Arkansas about a year ago and the wife and I are planning our Ouachita trail hike. We have to section hike it but we will get it done eventually. Did you have any trouble with ticks out there?

Does your Kindle keep a charge for long? I would almost rather bring a paper book along than a Kindle because I just don't trust the Kindle battery. And if it dies on me, I'm carrying dead weight.| I'm super impressed with your DIY gear. I'm so lazy and don't trust my handiwork. Haha.

I found this channel maybe at the end of 2021. I used to love hiking when I lived out west where I'm from, and I carried my love of hiking to this state. I found Eric's videos inspirational and sometimes quite challenging (especially his hikes in the summer 🥵). I only just found out he passed. It's very sad. He and his family will be in my prayers, and I will think about him whenever I go hiking out on these low and swampy trails.

Eric was one of the few high school friends I kept in touch with after graduation. I have not talked to him in a few years, but I am so sad he passed so early in life. His little girl is so pretty and a treasure….a gift from God. I’m thankful he made this channel. Seeing him and hearing his voice reminds me of our high school days. God bless you all. Candice

Me and my cousin will be making our first "real" backpacking trip here soon to the backbone trail. I just happened to stumble across the original backbone video a few years ago during/shortly after the pandemic but have never found the time to actually make a trip out of it as we often resorted back to one of our favorite truck camping spots on Toledo Bend. We have some other cousins who live in Idaho and we visit every few years and we both absolutely love the mountains, so I cannot wait to see some Louisiana "mountains" on trail. Thank you Eric for showing off some awesome hidden gems in our great state. I will be sure to have a toast to you first night out on the trail. Sending prayers for y'all.
