Had no idea Vildhjarta used 6 string guitars. I assumed they used 7 string guitars when I learned they used drop F. Now they're in double drop C# 🤯

Yep, they use 30” scale length baritone guitars tuned to ECFA#D#G. Anything lower than that is pitch-shifted.

As someone who LOVES to downtune one of my best examples of why it's not necessary in metal is Dimmu Borgir's Hybrid Stigmata. It really is the perfect example of how overall composition is far more important than levels of distortion or how downtuned you are to create HEAVY tracks.

Interesting! I'd say if you play "conventional", Drop E or F is the limit regarding the audio experience. But if you manage not to play to often on the open lowest string or write riffs like HLB, that perfectly fits to the ultra low tuning, why not?

I realize they aren't the hardest or the heaviest, and they're certainly not dropped all the way down to Lemk like many Titans of today. Titans that frequently sooth our ears via 'JoJo Plays'(and quite exquisitely too, if I may be so bold)..However, DEICIDE and their self-titled album for me, will always remain Principal. For they were my first...I surrendered my Black Death virginity all the way back in 90' upon the bronze alter, when I was mearly a freshman in high school. I tuned physically down to double drop D, and then pitch shifted anything lower. I just used ableton’s stock tuner for that.

In mainstream terms though, it was a total flash in the pan. Like, in 2009-10, dubstep could be heard on fkn insurance adverts n sht. I'm just looking vaguely forward to the day when I can click on a random video with "metal" in the title, and not turn it off after 15 seconds out of sheer boredom. Like, click on a random video with "EDM" in the title and you could potentially hear anything from oldschool acid house to contemporary synthwave beardo stuff, y'know?
