GOD DAMN that interview was a breathe of fresh air. I love hip hop and the golden era of the 90s and need this lox full album son. Nothin against everybody else, but there is NOTHING NOR WILL THERE EVER BE anything like east coast NY RAP. PERIOD. nobody is ever fuckin wit the lox, Mobb, Nas , Jay, boot camp, X, biggie... Action Bronson, uncle murda, Fab ETC. Even rakim, big daddy Kane, Pun, epmd we need that BACK, ASAP. Just that NY vibe son. No disrespect to any other state, but started and will continue to run this shit!!!!

Hot 97 takes 50% of the blame for this shit though. They would play Waka Flocka or Juicy J before Troy Ave, Lloyd Banks, or Vado. Why even be in NY if you show the south more love than the tri-state area?

Because it's about ratings if the ppl in charge of the station and what music should play they look at what songs ppl request and 9 times out of 10 there's not a lot of ppl requesting NY artist and if you have the ppl that pay then it's who's paying more. I think those same ny dj's & those that have a voice can put out there who ppl should look for from NY & the east coast and when there in the clubs play something hot from ny or fuck it those same dj's that had an impact like Envy & Clue ectect should start putting out mixtapes again that helped push a lot of artist cause they put the best mixtapes out that spoke directly to the ppl & the hood
@kushxhaze19 жыл бұрын
agreed, but when the fans want waka and juicy and all the other guys why would hot 97 want to pay for llyod banks, troy ave and vado, 90 percent of the people listening to music like Popular music with hooks and no words just dance type shit, not the lox, the majority of the fans have to change before the industry can

Altanta doesn't have that minor league bullshit Ebro talks about, their radio just play the records that are hot in the streets in ATLANTA; Richie homie Quan, Migos, etc. If Ebro was a PD in Altanta, would he play someone like Gucci or Migos with his hip hop guru standards? Ebro should just shut up about this NY hip hop bullshit and just say, "Ay man, l am running a business."

NY tried to imitate the southern sound in hopes of profiting like the south was at a certain time. But then the labels took advantage of this situation and only signed artist based on monetary gain,.....all Kids want to be Ignorant and rebellious, irresponsible and/or just spending showing off, bagging bitche, cars, ect........so they only promote more of this behavior. Dont get me wrong NY had its fair share of loud rowdy B.S..... but there were always lessons in songs (subliminally) creativity , story songs, a lot of conceptual music ...They traded that for the illusion of making paper Money. when they already had the formula for making Gold.

Great Interview! I'm one of those fans who supported NY hip-hop no matter what. P & Kiss was spot on about NY rap getting shitty when every1 started chasing the southern sound for spins. Not sure why Ebro seems so excited to be at fault for the downfall of NY radio though . . smh
@krisnyc913410 жыл бұрын
Ebro always wanna get into talks about NY music because he feels the need to explain to everyone all the time why Hot 97 is mostly southern rap. He needs to just leave it alone, no one is going to see it your way. We want ny rap even if its bad I'd rather hear a ny MC. And ebro needs to step down or get fired

I hate it when people talk about "Golden Era". The Golden Era of any type of music is subjective to who ever is talking at any given moment. It depends on what era you come from so in the end it depends on who is running the conversation. "Golden Era" changes all the time and every new generation has their own "Golden Era". To me, mid to late 90's east coast hip hop is MY Golden Era. To me nothing is better but that's just one mans opinion and what I say doesn't make it the end all be all. When it comes to music, everything is subjective.
