Yes, first pedal was a LPB1, it was the sheet metal version, probably in the late 70's. It's likely I purchase it from Bill's Music in Catonsville MD. and it was the cheapest pedal I could find that did something cool. I used it to boost a 70's Fender Champ, or a silver knob Peavey Classic. EH pedals were also the first pedals I ever repaired, and modified also late 70's .

I like a pure boost pedal used dead last before a tube amp, or to boost OD/fuzz pedals, this way I am not getting distortion from slamming the front on other pedals (delay, reverb, modulation), only from hitting the front of the tube amp or OD/fuzz harder, which usually gives the best results. If you only need 3-6db of boost, then a boost can be used mid-chain with less chance of slamming the input of a non-OD pedal or amp.

Oh, nice outro guys!

This is good advice. I never thought about putting the boost at the very end but it makes perfect sense.

But do you still have that first pedal?

Thanks, appreciate it.

New sub, I have two of the LP-1 , I love em they replaced two boosta grandes. Rightfully so imo. Thanks

Thanks for the sub. I was surprised how great this boost is, especially when you consider how much some of the other boosts on the market cost.

I believe the 1st overdrive I bought was an LPB-1, but it plugged directly into my amp input. It was not a pedal. It was a box with a male jack.

That sounds like an original. Pretty cool!

There is one resistor that can be bypassed on the Electra MPC that brings it to LBP levels. Jeff (RFO) did that to one of my modules and it is my go-to.

That makes sense. The module definitely didn’t have the same power behind it as is.

I went thru a lot of boosters including the E-H LPB-1. In the end I took a tip from SRV. Just get a Tube Screamer and push the level and cut the gain back to near off. I use the Caline Emerald Night an unbelievable dead on clone of a TS9 for $35.00 USD with free shipping :-)

That will work

I had an LPB-1 and it's the only pedal I've ever had which broke.

Crazy! I wish I could say that. We have a few that need some TLC.

No way this was based or inspired by the Electra distortion it came out in like 1968 probably invented 1967 can't remember the story exactly but I remember the compressor story

I am pretty sure we tell why it was included in this series in the video. I believe it is also discussed in the season opener. You are correct that it is not based on the Electra circuit, but it definitely paved the way for the circuit to come around.

According to the time stamps we discuss why it is here at 1:15.

Yeah I know I commented before I watched the whole video love the Electra series by the way I wish the damn guitar and modules weren't so expensive I'd imagine they would be pretty hard to make such small circuits all analog.would definitely have to use surface mount parts and that's a nightmare.ive been messing around with my danelectro danoblaster Innuendo guitar trying to modify it and come across the same problems there's just not enough space to really add anything I was gonna try and hardwire some mini pedals from the danelectro food series but I'd have to route the shit out of it and probably get rid of the middle pickup just to add another effect and the control placement would be awkward at best I think I need to start over from the ground up with say a hollow body guitar that I can unscrew the whole back off then I could probably get a PCB made a the way I want it and go from there but developing a cartridge based system for said guitar would be awesome maybe even have a pedal board as well for an extension and expression control and the ability to mix other pedals into the equation so many great ideas so little money to get a good prototype wish I could find a rad company that would back the idea front cash to get a working prototype developed plus money to lure some great builders and engineers onto a team
