Great to see someone who understands the nuances of LRZ rugby skill set explaining the challenges LRZ will have, but also some of the super skills he brings having been drilled in those skills since he was 6 or 7. One are I will be interested to see, is how other teams react to him in open field when he’s returning. I’m assuming most defensive players kind of expect what an offensive player will do in a certain situation so anticipate that. Having some one trained in a different skill set moving differently might wrong foot those people (. Or it might not and LRZ gets smashed ) Would LRZ be allowed to handoff ( stiff arm?) defensive players when running or are there Strick rules when/who can do that in football? If he’s allowed to do that,then that is.another skill LRZ will have been learning since he started contact rugby around the age of 10/11

Well i know LRZ can do hand offs as i have video of him putting my son on the floor as a 17 year old 😂 They were both playing the top student level of rugby at the same time. In the same match LRZ intercepted a pass 10 meters out and ran it back 90 meters at full speed. We had the U20 European 110m champion in our team ( Josh Zellar) who only just caught him, which shows how fast LRZ is as Josh is pretty quick ( think hes currently a top 5 110m student running for Michigan)

I think that LRZ will make a successful transition and will also be a stand out player for the Chiefs. He isn't someone who does things by half and has always been dedicated to self improvement. I grew in the Same area as his family in Cardiff and I played American football with his dad as part of a team called the Cardiff Tigers during the 1980s. He will literally change the game and we will see multiple athletes joining the player pathway next year. This is an exciting time for the NFL as this will increase the popularity of the sport worldwide.

Love the analysis JD. What struck me about your comments is that what he did in your video is pretty standard for rugby players, especially wingers (LRZ rugby position), so it’s fantastic insight to another area he could be used when everyone seems to be focused on his attacking play. @@toogyman In my opinion, it was a very poorly selected side. The only time in the whole series we looked good was when Finn Russell came off the bench and actually started throwing the ball around, playing the opposite of S.Africa. In LRZ's defence, he was very very early in his international careers and getting in ahead of the others was always going to be challenging. I mean Liam Williams also didn't make the first selection!

I think American football fandom numbers wise is closer to rugby than we think. The lucky thing for them is that a high majority of fans are in one country so all the media is focused in one place. Us in rugby are spread throughout the world and not many countries where it's the no. 1 sport. I've followed for a handful of years now and I've been surprised how big it is the NFL in America and that there are fans in many different places too.

Great video as always 👍🏻. Just to add rugby is 15 a side so although pitch bigger, plenty of congestion aswell! Also the rugby clubs only play in front of 10-15k so LRZ was only on 200k contract approx (sponsors/welsh money on top). The international game ( he played for wales) is much bigger where they fill 90,000 stadiums every time. As mentioned he also played for the British lions which is the all-pro team for England, Ireland Scotland and wales. LRZ for special teams pro bowl!!! 👊🏻

Just to add to the possibilities of taking the punt. As was said he can run or punt, but he can also lateral to either side line far more quickly than a "standard" football throw. (To be clear the ball will be a bit slower in the air, but catch to pass is much quicker). Put a RB on one side and Mahomes or Wentz on the other. Lots of problems for the defense. His biggest weakness is also a potential strength. He's a generalist trying to play a game for specialists. But that also means the opposition have less idea what he might do
@Dir3ctH3X

If you can put LRZ on a lateral when he's on to the ball at speed, he's going to waltz past any 1-on-1s he has in front of him. It's what he's been doing since he was 11. He can also spin pass at speed, so a lateral but with a spin for more distance, the problem with that is his team mates are going to have to learn to catch it.

Some guys like Finn Russell or Cheslin Kolbe in the French league make £1m/ season. For a top international who's been around a while won a championship or been a lion probably £4- 500k is realistic. Someone like LRZ cos he wasnt quite at the top probably £200k. He was on a trajectory to be a £1m+/ season player tho. Then you get endorsements etc. So rugby can make you quite well off for sure if youre right at the top where Louis Rees Zammit was heading. On the other hand someone i know played in the top division but wasn't an international and probably made 65k - 100k/ season. Not bad when you're 20 but the flip side is that now in his late 40s he struggles to remember where he parked his car. Literally. Brutal. The only league paying nfl type wages in Europe is football's premier league + a couple of outlying clubs in other leagues such as la liga or the bundesliga which still pay big overall, just not quite premier league big.

British rugby teams have private owners or are fan owned - literally rugby clubs. My team, Bath, are owned by a wealthy benefactor, but 2 clubs went bust last year. It must be remembered that Rugby Union was (officially) an amateur sport until the 1990s. Top players get relatively large salaries, but they won't be millions except in rare circumstances as English clubs are subject to a salary cap ( one team got kicked down a league for breaching the salary cap). The French League pays the best. Some players, if famous/good enough, will be able to make additional money through endorsements and advertising, they won't get a share of merchandising or shirt sales, that revenue goes to the club/ governing body.

There is no doubt in Rugby you can see the hit.. NFL I suppose the hit can come from anywhere.. A play in NFL is over in a few seconds.. Rugby this can go on the minutes... When the game is open in Rugby all players have the same skill set.. The fitness levels and stamina is off the radar in Rugby.. Give this man an inch and he will take a mile. 💥💨💨

In Rugby LRZ received the ball in open play and instantly pick his best route, and avoid opposition forwards and deep lying backs , its not all pre pland like the NFL, rugby is more fluid with the possibility of go up against multiple South African (springbok) TANKS. You guys do some proper research.

Hé has to get to the second level before he has that chance. 1st level is the lineman, 2nd level is the LBers and 3rd level is the Defensive Secondary. There’s ton of adjustments in the NFL that people just doesn’t realizes takes place👍🏾

How does LRZ compare to Jarryd Hayne’s attempt at breaking into the NFL a few years ago? Both codes of rugby and from what I’ve seen of both players, Hayne had the better running game.

In terms of Rugby Union (the fifteenth a aside game) in the UK it was an amateur game until it turned professional in 1995 - so it’s still not viable from a commercial sense to pay players the wages you’d pay top athletes in Premier League soccer or top athletes in the NFL - there were many Welsh rugby union internationals who switched to Rugby League (the thirteen a side game) in the era before professionalism as Rugby League has always been a professional game so you could make a living from it. Whereas those who remained in rugby union would work as teachers, doctors etc and still find time to be bloody good at playing rugby. In New Zealand this whole amateur vs professional thing wasn’t the same issue. Rugby Union and Rugby League have a lot of differences - obviously as they’re different sports having split from each other over a hundred years ago…

A Scottish Rugby International makes £129,205 per year. However, players also have a salary outside International and may also earn £35,289 on top through the Club League. An American NFL player makes $2.8 million per year.

What do you mean
@ceribaldwin8555
@ceribaldwin8555 6 ай бұрын
@@ChiefConcerns so in pre season games in rugby you can play all players that you have, without having to name the team. I know they pick the 53 soon and in rugby it’s similar where you have a squad, but on a Saturday you’d have to name the 22 man squad for that Saturday, then that’s who plays. But in pre season you can put players on and of as you like ??

@@ceribaldwin8555 From what I've seen of football you can sub on and off as you please. No restrictions on subbing. I think it's to keep players as fresh as possible which makes sense. If players are totally spent designed plays will break down and look messy. With LRZ he should definitely get some reps. The starters are rarely used in preseason. It's not so much to sort out combinations like rugby but to sort out who makes the final roster.
@suasagala8025
@suasagala8025 6 ай бұрын
@@ceribaldwin8555Yes unlimited subs so LRZ will get on the field. Starters hardly play in preseason. It's used more to finalize the roster from the handful of years I've been watching.

Yes I think he misspoke there. Japan pay top dollar but absolute max would be US$1.5m a season . But as their league grows there having the corporations backing them means they can keep raising their salaries if they want.

I assure you I did not mean the LRZ/wales won a world cup. Thank you for asking for clarity. All I meant is that the NFL crowd, NFL lights, professional moment, wont feel to big or intimidating to him. This will because of his experience as a professional rugby player and representing wales at the world cup.
