The LST-325 Northbound at Thebes

For her WWII service the USS LST-325 was awarded the American Campaign Medal, the Europe-Africa-Middle East Campaign Medal with three campaign stars, and the World War II Victory Medal which are displayed in front of the wheelhouse.

My Mother welded on LSTs at the Marseilles Illinois shipyard during WWII.

LSTs even served as aircraft carriers after a fashion. During Viet Nam,the US Navy put LSTs back into service as landing platform for helicopter gunships for HAL-1 squadron,the Seawolves & PBR patrol boats.. The idea was successful & led to a floating base called Seafloat supporting the helos,PBR patrol boats & SEAL platoons.

Yes. Powered by a pair of EMD 12-567A engines. LST engine rooms are VERY compact!

This was shot on the 24th or 25th of Aug they went past St. Louis and all the way up to Wisconsin and now currently in Dubuque, IA for tours and then to Hannibal on the 14th of this month for tours then back to Evansville on the 21st .
