Lucy going as far back as the 1930s always had a reputation as being somewhat crude and rough, both in the characters she played and in real life. She admitted that herself, which is why a lot of times she wasn't cast as the lead in movies.

Its very interesting to see these commericals from a modern day lens. Whenever you see a commercial today, or really for quite some time there has to be a bend. A gimick. Like Flow with Progressive. Something that is insane in the commercial. These commercials are so straight forward and simple. I think there is a benefit to that. Sure I like wacky and crazy commercials but the basic way things are done here just seems so ... nice.

Prof. (Adrian) Vance indeed. Ha, ha. Veteran character actor Lou Krugman playing him. One of the actors Lucy frequently turned to for supporting roles. When you think of it, there were certain people she must have felt she could count on, starting obviously, with Gale Gordon and Vivian Vance and then the likes of Doris Singleton, Elizabeth Patterson, Richard Reeves, Kathryn Card, Frank Nelson, Mary Jane Croft, and what, seven or eight more, max.

I wonder what the secret was the continuous "sudsing" was. This was before the phosphate ban era. Up to this time, so many of the detergents contained phosphates, which did not break down in water and contributed to water pollution.

in some eps the children had more screen time during the cast commercials than the actual shows. Lucy was never fond of working with kids. She also hated to have to pay them for doing nothing because their contracts guaranteed them a certain number of shows per season and in S2 especially there were many times that she had to pay them for not working

@@Texaslawhorn It's funny, but Candy Moore was an occasional guest on the Donna Reed Show playing Jeff's girlfriend on several episodes. On the episodes she was in, she had a LOT of screen time, much more than on the Lucy Show, and she wasn't even a regular on Donna Reed.
@Texaslawhorn4 жыл бұрын
@@rtususian Yes! I enjoyed Candy on "The Donna Reed Show." She was a good match for Jeff. I thought the same thing about her having more to say on that show and how that seemed odd. @@Texaslawhorn Even though Lucy is my favorite actress of all time, but one thing I did not like about her shows was every single episode had to revolve around her. It is very obvious that these commercials were shot before they brought the studio audience in, since it's obviously Charley Douglass' laugh machine. And I guess Lucy had a clause in her contract that she didn't have to do the commercials.
