They're all Luos...but sub tribes...the Luos in Kenya came from 3 clusters of sub tribes I.e Acholi,Japadhola and Alur...the other cluster of Luo is Luo-Abasuba who were Bantus and were assimilated by Luos when Luos were migrating into Kenya hence stripped of their culture and traditions to become Luos...any Bantu clans who occupied the lands Luos were interested in were either assimilated or expelled.

Very interesting the Lou tribe is made up of so manny tribes 9 of them who live in South Sudan & gambella Ethiopia where most of the Anuak tribe lives. ( Acholi , Anuak, Shilluk, Pari, Balanda boor, thuri, and luwo) with ( Acholi , Alur , kumam, Lango Padholoa , & Joluo,) living in northern Uganda , Kenya , Tanzania & even some of Congo. We all share the same language just different accents / dialect. ONE LUO ONE PEOPLE ONE LOVE.

In Uganda we were not allowed to speak vernacular, but this one time Mr. Otieno found me speaking luo with a friend and just stood there smiling, so I kept wondering why he didn't beat us. Luo from Bondo Kenya...Though correction..economically Luo's are Fishermen..East African Luo especially the Joko(People of)Omollo,Joko Winy and Joko Jok are all a group of luos who migrated from Up North Egypt,following the Nile River south wards as their staple food was fish.Part of the Luos remained in present South Sudan,others migrated to Ethiopia...the three mentioned above moved to Uganda a small percentage settled their majority moved to Kenya and settled a long Lake Victoria and the rest to Tanzania.They are known to be a very proud people,very educated and peaceful.And always fight for equality,transparency and truth. You have to study your history more. Luo's were originally cattle herders like their other Nilotic cousins. It was only after a severe disease that their cattle died that they resorted to fishing. Many Luo families still value cattle. Also, Luo's in Kenya is a bit different from the others in stature due to intermarriage with Bantu tribes.

Luo of Kenya and Tanzania are generally called JoLuo..they include the Acholi and Lango (Joka Jok), Lendu, Padhola (Jokowiny) and Alur (Jok Omolo) as Nilotes with the Bahima/Baganda (Suba), Several Luhya and Kisii from the Bantu..I am from the Luo-Bantu side and we are generally about 6ft and above heights with several assimilate under 6ft Bantu heights.

Minor correction. Maize is not kuon in dholuo. Maize is oduma. Kuon is the bread that may be made from many cereals fluor. It can be from maize, millet, sorghum, cassava, etc.
