I see the excitement on your face when you speak of what you plan to do with the pattern to suit your shape, Carol. You motivate me to figure out the changes I should try! Thanks! 😊

Oh thank you, Lynn! I'm trying not to get too discouraged that I'm spending more time figuring out changes rather than actual sewing, but I'm trying to embrace that that's part of the process. And if I can master that, I'll eventually make better fitting, quality garments! What have you been up to? Haven't really caught up with you lately :(

Love the way you are changing this pattern. It IS changing its look completely and that is great. Sewing is about making clothes that work for us. That being said, I personally think M&M is what I call Russian Female Prison Warden aesthetic. If you like it, fine, but it is marketed sloppily and it looks sloppy IMHO. Your realization of this has brought you to make changes that will be so much better for your aesthetic and I can't wait to see it. I love your channel, one of my favorites. Suggestion on the tucked bib---make a block piece of fabric with the tucks before cutting out the pattern piece, much easier. Also, make a mock bib to pin into the bodice once that is together, so you can eliminate that gaping. My guess is you have a narrow upper torso, full bust, and it needs to be dealt with. Can't wait to see your results and keep up the great videos and work. Much appreciated.

Hi Bunny! I loved your Russian Female Prison Warden comment and still laugh when I think about it. And actually, I agree with you. But I still see something in several M&M patterns. It took a ton of bricks to fall on my head to make me realize that the Shirt Dress pattern is never going to look good on my body. So I've been spending some time re-drafting it to fit my curvier (chubbier) body and also making a couple of personal tweeks. I love your idea of making the pintucked bib on a block of fabric before cutting. Genius! I was going to take the long route and slash and insert and adjust the pattern. Your way is much more efficient. I appreciate your advice and suggestions - they're great! and I'm going to incorporate them.

I’m so sorry the dress didn’t work out as you had hoped. That’s disappointing but I love that you right away went to « ok so what do I need to change? » I cannot wait to see your next version! 💞

Hey Izzy! I hope I can hit it out of the park with my revised version of my Shirt Dress. I've already started drafting a new pattern with adjustments/corrections. I'm also trying to add a little bit of "me" to it as well. We'll see how it turns out. I hope to have it done by next week. Take care and I'll see you on your next Friday Sews - oh wait - you also have Tuesday videos - I'll see you then!

This was so helpful. I have this pattern and have put off making it for a while. Not sure why. I've not seen any reviews on it either, so I'm glad to have seen yours and know what to potentially look out for. I have boobs and hips also, and I think that might be part of what has made me hesitate...fear of the sack look. Thank you for sharing!

I so appreciate a real review and my first thought was that it seemed bigger on the bottom half than needed so I agree with the straight sizing. So great that you are gonna redraft. I have to do tons of redrafting on shoulders for my makes - broad forward shoulders don't fit in most patterns right away. I think you could try taking off the sleeves and lift the whole bodice if you have enough fabric horizontally across the bust lower down -- thus perhaps saving this dress? I also like to tweak 'fails' until they at least are usable. I feel I learn so much that way.

Thanks for the suggestion - taking off the sleeves and lifting the whole bodice. That idea crossed my mind too. And you're right - I should try and tweak it to make something wearable; it's such nice fabric.

While I like this version, I can’t wait to see your updated pattern version. I have some of the issues you are correcting and will like to see the results. You still made a beautiful dress.

Thank you, Sonia. I have to admit that I thought I did do a good job sewing my Shirt Dress. I'm pleased with construction; just not the fit. I hope my revised version turns out more suited to my body type. I appreciate you watching and commenting!

😅I went down a size on mine. You should go for a 14

Will definitely size down, Ann! How did yours turn out. Are you one of those gorgeous photos on Instagram?!

@pollysews No Polly. I used 21 whale cord with stretch and it was good. There are minor tweaks I would do next time but nothing major
