Carol, the quilt your daughter made you is such a treasure! I think it would be beautifully displayed on the green wall beside you. I’m not much on gift cards for myself, but my grands love them! Sallie Tomato has a free pattern for a lovely 2-pocket gift cards/cash holder. I’m making them from leather, vinyl, and cork this year. That will add a simple little Nanny touch to the gifts. 😘

Carol don’t discount your daily value. I feel like I just got to sit down and chat and catch up with a friend. A good thing for sure.

Do you keep a running list of things you're like to add/replace in your wardrobe? If so I'd start there with trying to decide what to sew out of that lovely fabric. If not then over the next few weeks tune into your thoughts while you're choosing what to wear and see if you're ever thinking, 'i wish I had (fill in the blank)' to give an idea of what you want to make and have.

Oh my goodness, Nancy! It hit me like a slap in the face. I love the idea of keeping a running list of what I need to add/replace in my wardrobe. I've been thinking about my wardrobe (actually, my lack of a wardrobe) for a couple of weeks because I realize I have clothes, but not a wardrobe! I decided to make that my sewing plans for 2025 (did I just stay 2025? - wow, time is flying by!). Thanks so much for your suggestion!

Love your sequined fabric. Can't wait to see what you make. I so appreciate your chanel. I have learned so much from you as you go through solving different problems that have come up.
@pollysews3 күн бұрын
Thank you for the nice compliment, Joann! I'm just trying to figure out things as I go along. I realize that sewing - the actual construction part of it - isn't difficult at all. It's those darn fitting issues that I have problems with. Plus, I just don't know how to fit and what to wear with my now 62 year old body!

Love all the fabrics, especially the sequin. Sorry, I have no ideas for that beautiful fabric. ❤

Ooooh, love the sequins. Can’t wait to see what you make! For the merino, what about the McCalls pattern that you used to make your green velvet top? You could also make a simple lined knit skirt to go with the top. With my merino I’m thinking of Love Notions Frankie Polo or Pattern Emporium Ray of Light top. I may even make another Friday Pattern Company Adrienne Top because merino has such a lovely drape. I like the idea of embroidering the pocket. When I was embroidering, I would embroider the fabric and then cut the pocket. Much easier to get the design where you want it.

For the merino wool, I was thinking maybe the Wexford top by Cashmerette? I haven’t made that pattern myself, but I really like how it looks.
@pollysews3 күн бұрын
Thanks, Izzy. I think the Wexford top would be a great pattern for the merino wool. Plus, I don't have to buy a new pattern!

Oh my goodness, Carol! From a conservative camel wool coat to sparkly sequins and fringe. Can’t wait to find out what you have in store for that fabric! I love the idea of subtle embroidery on the silk blouse pocket.

Where did you get your colors done? I keep hearing about this and I'm not sure where to go to get it done.
@pollysews3 күн бұрын
Hi Zelda! I had my colors done through "Color Guru". they have to take a couple of pictures in good lighting and then come back with a color palette for you. I think they really take a lot of pride in what they do because they emailed me and asked for additional pictures in different lighting. And I think they did a great job. I've been wearing colors that I didn't think were meant for me, and they actually look great with my hair, eyes, and skin color! They're a bit expensive, $125 I think, but for me it was worth it. Take care, and I hope you and your family enjoy the holidays!!

Hey sewing friend! Santa is bringing me a new serger and possibly a new cover stitch machine for Christmas. I see you have both Bernina and Babylock brands. Would you please share with me what you like or don’t like about each brand and would you buy these machines again. Thank you!!
@pollysews7 күн бұрын
Hey there! Glad to hear you're on Santa's "nice" list this year and are getting new machines! How exciting! Yes, I have Bernina sewing machines and a Babylock serger, cover stitch, and embroidery machine. As much as I love my Berninas, I find them to be a bit persnickity from time to time. And I've heard that about the brand from several sources so I know it's not just me. The front load bobbin isn't as easy as the top loading bobbin machines either. If I were to buy another sewing machine, I would probably look at Babylock or Janome. I don't think I would buy another Bernina. As for the Babylocks, I love them and would definitely buy them again. They have a great automatic threading system and I've never experienced any issues (or sensitivities) with any of the machines. I probably use my serger more than any machine I own. I've had it over 4 years and have never had an issue with it. Hope you find my opinion helpful.

We’re pretty lame at my house. My husband’s family only does potluck meals for holidays. My friend’s family does gift-card-only gift swap. Once they found out that the kids love gift cards it was game over! I don’t care about the decorations so I quit when the youngest was 18. She did it for a few years and she decided she didn’t care enough to continue. We go for a drive to look at Christmas lights and have hot chocolate and call it good.

I hear you! A few years ago, our family of 14 decided to draw names. Kids and adults combined. Everyone gets 1 gift. The day is shared food, and playing games with the grandkids. Those are their memories. Beating Papa at UNO, etc. We decorate the tree with candy.

Hello, Carol! So excited to follow along with your Vlogmas journey! I completely understand your sentiments about Christmas. You’re exactly right, all the pressure around Christmas is mostly self-inflicted, I’m incredibly guilty of this! I’m trying to remember to slow down, enjoy the season and what gets done, gets done, Christmas magic happens either way 🥰 Happy Sewing ❤~Tiffany

Thank you so much! I'll be following your Vlogmas journey too! I think we as women and wives and mothers put so much stress on ourselves because we want to do so much for our families. But really, all they want is for us to be happy!

OMG Carol, you just said all the stuff that’s in my head. I feel exactly as you do. Your husband sounds like my husband. There are many things that have happened in my life to make me feel this way now about Xmas. Thank you for saying that all out loud. It helps to not feel alone in your feelings.
@pollysews8 күн бұрын
Don't get me started, Karen! I'm sure it would take months and months of therapy to get to the root of why I stress myself out so much at Christmas. But here's to both of us being mindful and not letting things get to us!

I wish I could get 10% of what I want to get done, done! Just figuring out which pattern and fabric to put together can be something that eats time, but we want to be as happy as possible with what we make, too, so we ruminate...I agree with looking at a piece of fabric you have on hand and thinking, "I don't remember buying this 😄!" I love that stretch velvet - so elegant!
@ZeldaSews23 күн бұрын
I like the floral knit fabric! You got a few projects going on!
@Seejaysew25 күн бұрын
You are so funny! We all go through this process. Can’t count the number of projects I want to get finished by the end of the weekend 😂🤣 Definitely the Merlin coat! Much more stylish. I like the flowered ribbing and the rust (?) coloured twill together. I would probably make a bias midi skirt or my go to Lander Pants. But I also like Kim’s idea of the Bob Pants.
@MaryCunningham-u5j25 күн бұрын
I think we all follow your channel because you are so "real," and this video just proves that point. I also think we can all relate to what you described in one way or another - no one has it "all together," and we all have something that we deal with - one of the reasons the KZbin sewing community is so wonderful is that it is so supportive. I know what you mean about the coat looking a little frumpy but it's amazing what a good fabric can do for an otherwise plain style and I bet that's what happens here - the quality of the fabric lifts up the results to a higher level.

I chuckled when you said your cameras battery was low, just after saying that you were very tired. Two low batteries! It looks like the brown fabric slightly faded on the fold. I would make a velours sweater. Such pretty fabric and you will wear it more than a dress.
