Wait until you shoot the damn thing. I thought I was in love with my 2.0 and never thought a trigger could make that big of a difference. It absolutely does. I've shot the 365s and the hellcat and this is by far the best shooting carry pistol or pistol for that matter when it comes to striker fire. I'm so beyond in love with this thing

Does the slide release work on the shield plus? I saw another video and the guy said the slide release doesn't work, you have to manually pull the slide.

Been carrying 50+ years and your comments about every day carry are right on. There are times it’s just a pain in the ass and I don’t, especially in the summer time. That’s why I began exploring these micro 9 mm pistols. Your video and comments have reenforced that I think the M&P Shield plus is what I need to replace my “compact” 9mm…nice video.

Agree. That two-hinged trigger on the original M&P was so mushy. The 2.0 was better but not great. FN uses a similar one on their 509 and I really like a lot of about the M&P and 509 lines but the triggers always make me change my mind.

Would be great if the new trigger can be retrofitted into the old stock M&Ps perhaps with a reasonable fee from S&W. Or at least offer a decent trade in value towards a purchase of a new pistol.

I have the mod1 and 2 shield 40, plus the compact 40 and 9 4". I think just carrying an extra mag or 2 would have been a better idea. I bought 2 of the shield plus, can't get any extra mags, and they cost $1,100. Good gun, too expensive. No regrets, just less expensive just using extra mags.

Love love love this firearm I got mine last Thursday have 1200 rounds through her straight out of box no cleaning no lub nothing and no problems with her the trigger is amazing loved my old shield actually have two but I have to say they are day and nite smith wesson did a amazing job with this I believe they are going to be back at top with this one

Outstanding! Love my Gen 1 Shield 9 that has served me perfectly since it first came out. This looks like a great upgrade! The Shield has never fallen from the top for me. I tried the P365 for a year when they first came out, but with the issues it had, I went back to the Shield.

Hell yes it is back on top. I carried the 1.0 for years. Switched to the P365 because the round capacity. It was not as comfortable as the Shield. Now, that the Plus is out I am back brother!!! Great review by the way.

I’m a previous owner of a shield. I got rid of it for a 2.0 compact 3.6 & 4.0 for additional capacity. I’m loving the increased capacity of the Shield plus. I can’t wait to get one in my hands. I’ve been on the fence with purchasing one of the other competitors. I’d rather have a S&W because of past experience with the brand warranties. Looking forward to future videos.

Marcus, this is a good one to get! Especially if you plan on concealed carrying. I think if you can find it for under $600 at a store you're doing good. Under $550 is outstanding but it may be hard to find since it's so new. Make sure you get a good holster if you're going to carry it. The one I use is an IWB made by CYA Supply designed for the Shield with adjustable tightness. I highly recommend it. Good luck!

If Dodge made it it would be even more of a reason not to buy it 😁. But if you need more of a reason they're having problems with the trigger my buddy has one and it's you push the side of the trigger on a hellcat on some of them anyway it will lock the trigger up. He ended up ordering a whole another trigger and putting it on there I've heard of others doing the same.

To answer your question - in my opinion they never left the top of the micro compact segment. What they lacked in capacity they made up for in ease of draw and shootability. The Shield has always been better than the P365, Hellcat, and G43. Now S&W just killed our last excuse - capacity.

I have been in love with the m&p line the shield has a trademark simple and reliable I have the 2.0 shield,the plus,and the 30 super carry so this a firearm that just works especially when the new trigger on the plus which is very good

I think the king of this segment is the Taurus G2C. This seems to be the gun that all of these manufacturers are chasing size to capacity wise. Also the Ruger Max 9 has better sights, is optic cut and retails for $100 cheaper. Factor in the Taurus G3C TORO $400 retail and Shield isn't the best bang for buck option. At that point it all comes down to shooter's preference.

I definitely think the G series pistols are on par with any brand out there at a lower price point and so do millions of other owners. Every brands has models that have problems. Look at the first round of Sig 365s. Let's not forget that Smith & Wesson had the Sigma line (which I owned) that was trash.

I watched 4 Vids on Shield Plus, yours was outstanding, enjoyed. I've owned a 1.0 Shield 9 & now the 2.0 Shield 9 with the new 2.0 trigger. Agree as you stated the 2.0 is a fine trigger and now the semi flat trigger another improvement another plus increased mag capacity. The 2.0 accuracy certainly improved over 1.0 Shield so please shoot accuracy drills from combat distances with the new trigger as it should do well. The one thing S&W has to do is improve the MAG release, the little tab too small, the only thing about the P365 that I liked.

Good video. Good review on a gun that now puts S&W back in the game. (I never stopped carrying a shield. Still have 1.0) But now they're in the high capacity game. Great move. I have to say though, I have an issue with everyone always talking about sights, getting "better" sights. I don't claim to be any kind of expert, but I've been shooting guns since I was 10 years old and I'm now 61. "Better sights" Don't make you shoot any better, any more than a $200 baseball bat helps a little leaguer hit the baseball better.

I think Shield is king with this one. Especially with the options of safety, a good trigger with a disgdingus, but also the better build, metal and finish over other similar guns. Compatability with older parts and holsters in an already proven setup is a cherry on top. Some might prefer it already come with RDO cut and night sights without the extra cost, but these previous features areuch more important to me.

I enjoyed your review but I wish you had gone over the slide release. As most M&P owners are aware, they can bind pretty badly, requiring some minor filing down by the owner. I saw a recent review of this problem even in the PC versions. I, for one, am surprised that S&W have seemingly overlooked this issue, even in the PC lineup. What are your thoughts on this?

A year ago, yes! Now maybe not. The Shield+ is a great carry pistol, but when it's compared to the Micro pistols, it's just a little out of that category. It's slightly bigger in size and weight. Now, as far as shooting, that's not necessarily bad qualities. The P365 matches it in capacity and the Hellcat and GX4 surpass it with 11 rounds in their flush fit magazine. The competition is growing, and it just depends on what you like and how much you want to spend. Today, I can buy a Tauras GX4 for $250, after rebate. I'd love to see S&W compete with that!

This is the most shootable comfort of the Micros. Size to weight ratio. It is a bit heavier compared to the competition and that shows up in perceived recoil.

I have S&W Shield 40 version 1 and saw this and ordered it from Sportmans Warehouse two days after it was announced. I was looking at the Hellcat or Sig 365 but just waited. So glad I did, love buying American even though I have Glocks! (I love them as well. I get my S&W Plus next week, can't wait! Wanted a higher capacity!
