For the best cut you need a microfibre cutting pad. Dont spot the compound as you have been doing, spread the compound with the d/a on the lowest setting then up it to the max. Always stop the polisher on the panel. Also you are putting too much pressure on the polisher, the pad if using foam shouldn't look flat. I detail for a living.
