Loved the band ever since school days. Been going to the gigs past and present. Fortunate to have seen them late 80s early 90s. So I was well chuffed when they decided to gig again nearly 30 years later.

I was at this gig. We were told by their Manager, who we knew, to save all our empty cans from over Christmas (which was when it was filmed) to throw at them while they played.

Peter Gresty was the manager then. We played two weeks before them here. Great little venue.

I used to listen to the Macc lads years ago at school but this is the first time ive actually seen their faces, the beater reminds me of Johnny Marr and the front man Mutley's quite charismatic, great stuff.

Found this because I'm a long time fan, always thought there was a bit of irony about the Macc Lads but the opeining rant made me cringe. I know it was 30 years ago but oh (fuckin') dear. Still think 'Miss Macclesfield' should have been entered into the Eurovision.
@deeps27617 жыл бұрын
Not sure your logic stacks, and while I'm hardly likely to win any PC awards it doesn't mean that we can't look back and wince about past behaviour. Going down the nuclear route, it was considered completely acceptable to keep slaves for a while 'back in the day'. As i said, I'm a fan, doesn't mean that we've not moved on in the last 30 years. Irony, satire, meh, chill dude, being offensive to get noticed isn't necessarily a good quality and I say this as a young fan who was offensive 30 years ago to be noticed, I grew out of it though thankfully.
@stevex84097 жыл бұрын
I was talking about that opening rant with someone recently. I don't think Mutley is racist, the Macc lads are an act. We've all said and done things we're not proud of, im in my 40's now but when i was 17 i used to see the world totally differently to how i see it now, im sure he didn't mean anything nasty by it, it was just of time.
@deeps27617 жыл бұрын
I'm the same, 48 year old me has a slightly different world view from the 18 year old me and I don't need to go that far back to find things to feel embarrassed about. The Macc Lads were about being 'edgy', its probably part of what appealed to me at the time, it was a 'less enlightened' time, glad I lived in it though.
@DAVEDEATH10006 жыл бұрын
I very much doubt the folk at the gig gave a fuck! And rightly so. Imagine what would happen nowadays. Some cunt woulda recorded it on their phone and spammed it all over social media, and then Macc Lads gigs would be boycotted by ANTIFA type cretins for racism etc. Political correctness shafts the country even more. Sad times. I mean it's only a fucking laugh. I saw the Lads live a couple weeks back and they still fucking rule. Eh up!
