I really enjoyed this story. So imaginative. If you're grossed out by insects than you may want to skip this one.

Considering this was a pre-1971 story, the whole thing is pretty good

I think it’s a lot older than that. Not sure, but around 1920.

I was looking forward to enjoying this story. Unfortunately, time and time again I was reminded of how savage humans are no matter what their level of intelligence. Just like the opening scene of 2001 when the apes realize the bones can be used to kill, so Burl finds he can kill with the beetle horn and from that point on begins to kill just to kill. In addition, he walks past carnage without any semblance of sympathy, dismembering still conscious victims without even ending their very obviously stated suffering and pain before pilfering their bodies, leaving them to die in even greater pain. Yep, pretty good description of humans in any time period and stage of growth.

Isn't this the exact same book as "nightmare planet" with a different title?

Yeah I wonder the same thing myself but it seems like an expanded version of that story?

information. the first part of this store (discussing the affects of catastrophic increases in co2) is spot on. however, in reality (in 2022), co2/air pollution is not the 'thing' that is dominating global changes in the habitability of surface of the earth. rather, those changes are driven by other, 'natural', influences. they are planetary, solar and galactic influences. (those factors are not REALLY separate, however. solar factors are affected by galactic influences; and planetary factors are affected by, both, solar and galactic influences.) at first link, is a video that CLARIFIES what is Really going on, NOW. (at second, third links: one thing is an Established/accepted fact: the strength of the earth's magnetic field IS steadily REDUCING. this reduction in planetary field strength RESULTS in certain, to-be-Expected, consequences. to include, global environmental changes.! this One FACT fact is NEVER mentioned (by bigscience), nor is it integrated in to any 'debate' about global climate change..!!!!) kzbin.info/www/bejne/n5naoHyira18abM en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earth's_magnetic_field en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geomagnetic_reversal

it is `the forgotten planet' rewritten. Basically the author plagiarized himself.

Found it rather boring. The voice or reader is monotonous, and the use of Latin names doesn't help the story.I did like the story,
