The New York interaction that lost me a game: I moved my Cosmo and some other ongoing cards there. My opponent Enchantress’d them. Cosmo was there enough to get the whammie, but not there enough to prevent On Reveal effects.

I have a feeling that the stones might still need a tad bit of power buff. All the Ongoing only benefiting Thanos made them more crucial to stay on board now and them taking 6 spaces with just 8 power is probably a bit underwhelming.

regarding the space stone "weird" wording, my assumption is that the "nothing can stop you from playing or moving anywhere" is coded in one package like both on Jeff and War Machine and cannot be separated, so they kept it for consistency in niche scenarios where you ramp him up and then move him.

Time Stone now allows a pretty reliable Thanos + Infinity Stone on Turn 6 which is good.

Phoenix Force on Multiple Man with Hulk Buster was a surprisingly common interaction that is 100% getting nerfed by this change -- the previous outcome of that play was that you got your Hulk Buster buff on the Men in both locations. Now, the Move will 100% come first, the replacement Man left behind, and then Buster will attach to buff only the Man who actually moved

That’s a very specific interaction, I don’t think people often play Hulk Buster on the Phoenix Force itself. But even then, you just lose 3 power, maybe 6 max if you move that duplicate again, not that big of a deal. If you already got the MM into Force combo you are probably winning anyway.

It was important to keep your Multiple Man copies at the same power so they will both be pulled by Dr Strange, for example. Knowing these things is what makes a Phoenix Force deck so hard to play. This seems to lower the skill ceiling of the deck and might make it less interesting to play, sadly.

i think it just blanket nerfed all physical movement benefactors. I can no longer dagger trick in my heimdall deck and it was one of my strongest lines against combo decks. I can't dodge shang either which makes me sad.

I have been asking for this move change for months. There are a few interactions with force that always felt inconsistent like moving a MM into venom or to avoid shang. There are a few others, but Ive lost many games due to the old inconsistency with the move mechanic, very glad this finally got fixed.

11:11 I sorta had an issue with this; or well, the confusion of Nocturne moving and and the location triggering before the nocturne changed the location; weird overall and I sense it’s all sort of connected . I sense I have tried to soul read Shang something that moves and failed for that reasons too.

That move change is good because when playing Phoenix Force you have to move Multiple Man first then Venom. If you Venom then move him. Venom destroys him before his copy is sent to his previous location.

I think making Thanos a full-on Jeff by giving Space Stone also a once-a-game move would be a tad too much and they're right to not immediately push that much power into the card since the rest of the rework is already massive and hard to predict. I assume the effect is basically reverse Blob and only really does anything in the case of Professor X being on the board or a possible future card or location with the effect "cards can't be moved here", implying that an external move effect has to exist for Thanos to actually get moved, like Heimdall or Cannonball. I also think they've already basically transitioned into making most balance adjustments through OTAs. This patch had a lot of things, the whole asset redownload, series drops, move mechanics, performance improvements, uncapped collection level, SFX and VFX and only one real balance change in Thanos. Whether they do a good job at balancing is an entirely different discussion and we can wait and see in a week or two.

I definitely rely sometimes with Nocturne on stuff like "play card on Shuri's Lab then move Nocturne with priority so the other player doesn't get the benefit of Shuri's Lab" so this ends up being a minor nerf to Nocturne and also to cards like Phoenix Force which had been ducking counter cards out of priority when moving.

I think the reason for the move text on Space Stone is to just keep some semblance of the old text. It was always the move stone, and I guess they didn't want to stray too far from that identity.

With the Changes to the stones, Thanos can now be played with the Black Order. Ebony Maw, Corvis Glaive, Proxima Midnight, and Cull Obsidian. It's not gonna be a good deck, but at least it's there.

I actually think it's a buff to Nocturne. The amount of time I wanted to disable a location that was good for my opponent, only for them to still get to play there and THEN her disable it, even though she clearly already moved there, is... non-zero, let's put it this way. So hopefully, it will no longer happen.

Obviously I don’t expect SD to know what a meta game will look like a month in advance like you said because so often it shifts week to week so specifically prof x / cannonball only had like a week or two before the patch but hasn’t Hela been meta defining since like January? They haven’t touched her or the archetype in an OTA so I assumed a bigger change was needed in the patch which obviously didn’t happen. Hela has been a big enough problem for a long enough time that I feel very warranted to think a patch nerf was kinda expected this go around

So do all moves resolve before either player’s cards flip? Because then Nocturne is definitely worse. Before, if you didn’t have prio, you could move it to locations like Luke’s bar or Death’s domain last turn and then possibly also play a card there. Now your opponent can just play cards there also even if they have prio. Is that how it works?

One plus side to Nocturne: She can stop your opponent from taking advantage of locations like Shuri's Lab even without priority.

I think they had to add the move text to Space Stone just in case you moved Thanos with something (Ghost Spider, Iron Fist, etc.) just to be similar to Jeff. In case some crazy person makes a Thanos move deck (hey, maybe that's viable now, who knows). You know if it wasn't there and Space Stone only had 'played anywhere' and some Shmoe tried to move Thanos into a Prof X lane and couldn't they'd be complaining that they can do it with Jeff but not Thanos. Who knows what SD's thinking was with this, it is very weird.

I wonder if the move change had anything to do with Kingpin and Spiderman. Before, if Spiderman moved kingpin, kingpin would reduce spidermans power even though technically Spiderman eas there first. Hopefully this change gets rid of some of that jank. Also, if I moved my Nocturne on the same turn they played Magneto, the magneto would move Nocturne and Nocturne would NOT change the original location I moved her to, only the new location Magneto moved her to. Hopefully this fixes it so that she changes both, as intended.

Space stone seems to be focused directly on the player. I think if he gets cannonballed, if he cannot be moved into a lane (or would be forced into pro-x) he would be destroyed and turned into a stone

My issue with the move change is it removes optionally across the board. With nocturne I could have the location change before or after I played cards depending on my preference. It’s a nerf to our agency as players, and I don’t think NY warranted that.

There is no reason for balance changes to be tied to patches. They should use patches for actual app changes or fundamental changes like the move stuff maybe. They should release every patch alongside an OTA to handle the quick changing meta because theres no excuse to tie balance to a 3-4 week old metagame.

As a Phoenix Force truther since Nico’s release, I will say I’m not a huge fan of the movement changes. The way Multiple Man would be able to move and leave behind copies loved being able to use the turn order and movement to our advantage. It is far more clunky. The one advantage I believe it gives is when not having priority and the opponent plays a prof X, now the MM shouldn’t get stuck before making a copy
