my grandma has recounted stories to me that she would hear of the Doolin-Dalton gang. the 1893 shootout actually happened in my grandmas hometown of Ingalls, Oklahoma. it happened after the US Marshall’s got word the gang was hiding out in the small town so they sent Marshall’s up from Guthrie and Stillwater to get them. theres even still a couple buildings standing that were there for the shootout and my grandma took me to see a reenactment of the shootout there when i was little. it’s just always been so cool to me that i could hear those stories from my grandma who was told first hand accounts of the action considering it happened just 45 years before she was born in that same town

When i see a top tier video, I like to log my full thoughts with a comment to help the video STICK with me: I wonder how many times part of this story has been portrayed in fiction. This made me really want to learn more about these characters, as immoral as they are. I think i prefer the Wild West over city mafia stories, because the vast open spaces help balance the unfair, cold blood killings with an adventurous atmosphere. Though I'm sure some of the battles weren't ambushes, and were decided by strategy after each side was aware of the other's presence. It's so fascinating to me that there was an era like the Old West, where even everyday men needed a gun for safety. There may never be another era of pure, independent survival like this again in human history; maybe pure independence or survival, but not both to this degree. I wouldn't choose to live in this era, but if I had to, i would make the most of it (without being a criminal). The extreme nature of the Old West world is what makes it so captivating, without the need to be one of its immoral main characters. You can picture what it'd be like just to be an ordinary person in these stories, which would be like nothing else. As far as this specific video goes, you guys certainly worked your top tier magic! You couldn't have picked a better way to instantly convey the immorality, danger, and freedom of the Old West; the Dalton Gang was so greedy that they tried to rob TWO banks at the same time, before getting defeated by... ordinary citizens! Once we meet Frank Canton with his intense bounty motive, see the Daltin Gang become the Doolin Gang, and watch the criminal Dunn Brothers start a SKETCHY alliance with Canton... You just know this story HAS THE MAKINGS of a TV series! All the events that followed made me think "Stuff this TV-like actually happened!?" So Canton and the Dunn Brothers, who have zero moral trustworthiness due to their pasts, team up to hunt down the Doolin Gang, who the Dunn Brothers are basically friends with! WHAT COULD GO WRONG? Anyways, great job with literally every aspect of presenting this story, with the magical narration and impeccable high-effort NON-AI art and sound design. Nice slight detour with the Native American reservations to help anchor the story to a well-known time period, since most people don't know when the Wild West began and ended. The Doolin Gang sucking up to townsfolk and becoming popular reminded me of your Mafia videos, where some mafias were well liked by their community, who knew the charity but not the evil side of them. When Canton showed up to stake-out the Dunn's area where the Doolin Gang were bound to come by, it was as dramatic of a setup as any two-part season finale. Canton then misses his chance to get any Doolin, but the Dunn brothers got the huge Doolin kills instead. Really like the detective vibe with not knowing how immoral those kills were. I like how there's an elite group of criminal hunters called the Three Guardsmen. They could probably have their own movie, though it'd be a lot of killing, given their insanely high kill count. Of course they end up being morally sketchy like everyone else in the story, though maybe not on the same level as the main cast. The Dunns not paying Canton, and Canton trying to arrest Bee Dunn shows a shift where it's no longer smoldering envy, but them being outright enemies. I guess having similar corruptness doesn't unite them! This official enemy status (between Canton and the Dunn Brothers) makes the story NOT feel over when the Three Guardsmen (and the Dunn Brothers) kill the "main" antagonist of the story, Bill Doolin. All of this bounty hunting has revealed everyone's demons and true nature, so there's bound to be one more selfish betrayal. I really like the way you portrayed the final showdown between Bee Dunn and Frank Canton. Most youtubers would tell one version of the fight and make it unclear that it's loose speculation, but you guys made it clear that nobody knows what happened here, other than Canton winning. Crazy how Frank Canton was a made up identity the whole time! Now let's get a big movie studio to see this video , so they're inspired to make one about at least one of these characters!

Read Blood Maridian, it's a wild book.
