I believe your artist videos have achieved their true purpose with a viewer like me. When I first got into Magic, I only saw the cards for their playability. I would casually look at a card and think “wow, that looks cool. I like the picture on this one.” But after viewing your videos like Avon, Hamm, McKinnon, and now this video, I am “that” guy in my playgroup that’s constantly saying stuff like “guys, this new pack has a Nils Hamm artwork! Look at the purpled and greens!” Haha In other words, bravo sir. I imagine videos like this are what give artists the validation they deserve for all the beauty they put into our game.

YAYAYAYAYAY. I started watching your videos with Jesper Ejsing 2 years ago, and since started paying more attention to the art on my cards. I fell in love with Seb McKinnon's work. I even supported his latest kick-starter and own two of his prints, and over 100 of his cards, which I keep in a binder I hope he will sign one day. All this started from your love of art and willingness to share with the rest of the world in a well explained beautiful form. Thanks Sam

The artwork of magic the gathering is one thing that i enjoy just as much as the gameplay. Im always happy when i see you highlight an artist that i do know, but moreso when its one i don't know. Then you show a card or two that i play with and its like now i can never play rampage of the clans with thinking of the artist or appreciating the artwork even more. It is a true testament to Rhystic Studies that the finest, most considered content created in relation to a card game, has nothing to do with its game play or politics, but everything to do with its visual art and its culture. With every vid it asks how does this game make you feel? Staggering artistry, both from the mtg Artists studied and Sam.

Your attention to details are art in and of itself, and the way you methodically structure your points are like poetry. To the point, but without leaving any necessary details behind. And it feels like you go out of your way to be as specific as you can, but keeping the language as common as possible, so everyone who wants to listen can understand. Thank you. Thank you for your videos and for your contribution to make MTG what it is.

Hey Rhystic, I always love your breakdowns of the artwork for Magic. This one has actually been my favourite yet, which is saying something. I just wanted to let you know that referring to Pouncing Lynx as a stray is a misnomer, if you look at the piece again, you'll notice the leash around the neck of the Lynx is broken off from a hand in the crowd, previously holding it. Other than that, you've inspired my to look more at the art made by Sidharth Chaturvedi. Thank you.

I also wanted to thank you for honestly deepening my love for all the artists who work on magic cards, it's great to have such a thoughtful and analytical breakdown that puts what I see into words I understand, You're videos are great resource to teach art because of the attention you give to all the theory that make each artist individual but also the common language they employ to make their art employ the right moods.

Sid's got some great art that always reminds me of Rockwell and others. Demon of Catastrophe in full view versus MTG card size gives me pause as it is an amazing piece of work. I don't know why people still say "MTG doesn't have artists who paint anymore, they all use computers." I show them Sid's work and others that do still paint artwork, and they go quiet. Disrupt Decorum, Midnight Reaper, and Trostani, Selesnya's Voice (GRN Guild Kit version) are some of my favorite pieces Sid has done. Great work as always Sam! Might I add that despite being "newer" to the MTG art scene Sid is turning into one of my favorite artists. Also, also, seeing how twitter has been going . . . ignore the negative and focus on what you want to create. YOU are the content creator and if people don't like it, then they can either make their own art appreciation videos or shut up. =)

I think we're so extremely fortunate that MtG has become one of the biggest magnets for some of the most amazing fantasy artists in the world. For my own person tastes I feel like Sid is something really special and very under-appreciated. The character he gives each of his subjects, the story telling, movement and compositions are something I haven't quite seen put together like this by other artists. Such a unique and clever artist. Edit: His Demon of Catastrophes could have been the new Lord of The Pit.
