What a beautiful boat. Nice to have Four Wnds in the catamaran market. Catamarans are not the future, are the present!!!

Four Winns, I would seriously consider solid glass windshield panels that slide manually, up and over the hard top. This would enclose the front to all weather without soft eisenglass leaking and maintenance. With some tweaking to galley amenities and a complete soft close in of the sides and stern, this could be marketed as a " Great Loop" capable version. Outboards on the Great Loop, I agine that! Additionally, I hope all windscreen frames are stainless and not aluminum. We owned a FW 328 Vista with aluminum frames...not so great on the salt water, Really! Dan, I watched both videos, great work and very entertaining as usual 😊

Cool that you told the fuel consumption at various speeds but since you didn’t mention fuel capacity how are we to work out what the range would be? A screen shot of a spec sheet containing length, width, draft and fuel/water capacities would be a nice addition to your videos.

Would like to know tankage (water and petrol) and price (generally). I really like when we are told what the “cruise” speed is. . .meaning the most efficient speed. . .for long passages. . .In the US, we have something called the LOOP, which is around the Eastern US, into Canada and down the Mississippi back to the Gulf of Mexico and back to the NE US. I think this boat could be a great Looper. . .but more tech specs are needed. Other than that, I like how you do this. Thanks Dan!

Stiltsville dates back to the 1930s, when "Crawfish Eddie Walker" built the first shack on stilts above the water. In 1985, the bottom land on which the stilt structures sit was deeded by the State of Florida to the Federal Government as part of Biscayne National Park. There were raids for possible illegal whiskey and gambling in it's early hay days...

I'd like to see it running a descent chop! Great boat, fuel consumption scarey especially in OZ where prices are much greater!

So the bridgedeck clearance and wave breaker in between the hulls was effective when running through boat was at speed. Unfortunately we were in a no fly zone for the drone when I had the boat was so couldn't capture it for you. Compared to monohulls with equal carrying capacity the consumption isn't too bad.

@BoatLife_DansBoatLife Thanks. I am sure it's comparative. I am a fan of double hulls.

Imagine the same boat with a hydrofoil how smooth and efficient it would be. It is supposedly coming soon. The aquilla 36 reports a 20% increase in efficiency and its accompanying speed with their hydrofoil so this should be interesting. I hope Four Winns hurries up with the hydrofoil and an enclosed air conditioned salon model, it should be fascinating to see the end result. Will the enclosed deck make it nerdy or will they find a way to make it super cool and trendy? It is all up to the designer's pen. They need to think out of the box and not just enclose what we see here. They also need to incorporate a stylish component to the side supports. Just look at what Hyundai and Kia have done with their chrome trim on their cars on recent models and how they change the overall perception of the design. I hope Four Winns gives this some thought.

Great comment here, I hope the designers see this. This is what makes boating fun I thhink when we can see all the new and interesting ways we can make good use of a limited space. And yes the less wetted surface = less drag and better economy. However... when you have less boat in the water you can also change the ride comfort as the boat may want to move around more... it's worth testing before committing to one direction over the other. I'm sure it can be done well but the hull design needs to be good.

Can someone comment on the difference between having big outboards as opposed to more fuel efficient diesels
@barryg.291

Diesel outboard option...? For long distance cruising.
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife Жыл бұрын
Hmm another good idea…! I would want to understand the weight and cost of the diesel outboards before making that decision. I don’t think it’s an option but I’m sure builders like Four Winns consider that in the development phase

Handsome Cat. I'm still not impressed with fuel burn. I would love to see you test some boats with OXE diesel outboards.
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife Жыл бұрын
That would be an interesting test! The OXE does appear to be a lot bigger, heavier and more expensive however so I guess you need to work the numbers on that extra initial investment vs higher fuel burn..?

Windshield bar looks to be right in the way of clear sight . I would prefer full height windshield to keep weather out like Aquila. With full windshield it looks like you would have to duck to access cabins so they would have to lessen the angle of the windshield. For me other than that I love it , great design
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife Жыл бұрын
The bar was thin so I didn't find it annoying. Good point about accessing the cabins.. that could be an issue that needs resolving if they decide to make an enclosed version. Good feedback - thanks

I wonder why this isn’t ’yacht certified’ for the captains discretion regarding capacity. My WC 280 dcx is. Am I missing something?

Do cats have a problem finding marinas that can accommodate that extra width, must have to moor them in a extra wide berth...more money?
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife Жыл бұрын
Goog question... at this beam the answer is no because it fits in a normal berth (slip) but the bigger cats that resemble the sailing cats absolutely do. You really need to consider what part of the world you are going to boat in if you haven't got an unlimited berthing budget.
@wydryfly
@wydryfly Жыл бұрын
This boat has a proper wave breaker, which all cats should have. That’s a definite plus for build and ride quality. The Aquila does not! That is a no-no in cat building. Hull slap is nothing to joke about.

Correct! While I was mostly hunting down boat wash and tide for waves it left me witht he ipression that she is an extremely comfortable ride through chop and would be good offshore too.

How can you fly a drone in a national park? I don't understand how this can be possible for some and not for others... 😮
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife Жыл бұрын
There is an app that show's you where all the restriction zones are and also geo-blockers which will physically stop your drone from entering a restricted zone so you literally can't take off or fly into a restricted zone. So anywhere you see the drone footage it's permitted to fly.
@gustavorumbaut
@gustavorumbaut Жыл бұрын
@@BoatLife_DansBoatLife You are doubly wrong, the Stiltsvilles are within the Biscayne National Park region, the flight restriction over national parks by the (FAA) is perpetual, it is impossible to fly in these places without the approval of the parks. I have more than 2 years managing a permit to be able to fly where you do... I invite you to better inform yourself about the topic in question, before . Nothing was just a comment
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife Жыл бұрын
@@gustavorumbaut Mate I'm not claiming to know everything so if I'm wrong that's fine. I just referred to the FAA website which referred me to B4UFLY App which was very easy to understand. When I was using it Stiltsville according to the App was just on the border of the park. Also, when I was flying close to the restricted zones and hit the barrier my drone stopped against the geo fence which corresponded with the App. This is my first time to the States so if there is more that I'm not aware of then I'll educate myself - easy peasy, no worries.

I’m sorry, but if you’re going to take a boat for a test drive and claim how smooth the ride is, maybe not do it on a perfectly calm day? Any boat would have a smooth ride with those water conditions.

So Mother Nature gives me what she gives me and I just work with that. It's on these days that I have to resort to boat wash and my experience. Fortunately i've got 30yrs of power and sailing yacht experience and have driven somewhere in the region of 1,000 boats now. So this gives me a very good feel for what a hull is doing and how it's going to respond as the conditions worsen. When I get my hands on one back in Australia i'll be able to show this in some big ocean swells.
