This is finest art - beautifull, light, bright, breath taking. Best opera experience ever.

It is exellent singing. Håkan Hagegård is very good, but what's the name of the wonderful soprano. Beautiful voice!

It may not be in German (such a pity!), and they may have changed certain little points in the film, but this is my favorite adaptation EVER!

Everybody is so good looking in this adaptation. Like everyone. Even Monostatos has a magnificent ugliness.

They're all so good who cares what language they're speaking? Hagegard is cute but part of his charm is that he doesn't look old enough to be out alone after dark.

Bergman was a multi-faceted genius. He truly loved opera. The Swedish lyrics still rhyme, has the right cadence and rhythm. Whats fantastic is that the English subtitles are made with same love and craft. You can sing along to the whole opera using the subtitles.

Beautiful! I love this film and aria. Anyone know the English translation?
@ToddSF8 жыл бұрын
Here's an English translation of the original German libretto, a literal one that doesn't rhyme or have the correct meter to be sung to Mozart's music. (Pleaste note that what is being sung in the video is a poetic Swedish translation of the German, so what's below is NOT an English translation of the Swedish translation.) In men who feel love, A good heart is not lacking. To sympathize with those sweet instincts Is, then, the first duty of wives. We want to be happy with love -- We live through love alone,We live through love alone, Love sweetens every trial; Every creature offers itself to love. It sweetens our daily lives, It beckons us into the circle of nature. Its higher purpose clearly indicates Nothing is more noble than wife and man. Man and wife, and wife and man, Man and wife, and wife and man, Reach to the height of Godliness. Man and wife, and wife and man, Reach to the height of Godliness. To Godliness, to Godliness. ======================================= The problem with translating song lyrics or poetry is this: if a translation is beautiful, it is not faithful, and, conversely, if a translation is faithful it is not beautiful.

On the contrary! I think that is beautiful. Thank you for this. I've known this film all my life and this is the first time I've known that this meant.

Wagner would have loved this he was anardent lover of belcanto and should probably been terrified of the wagner performances nowadays with screaming singers trying to be heard over big orchestras with brass instruments build for Sousa marches

@@johnspencer5610 sure, you are right :) As I listen to it now I was probably meaning Hakan on that time but now I'm not fascinated with either of them anymore.
