I'm gonna say duos are the magic number, 2 Outkast Mobb Deep Pete Rock & CL Smooth Eric B and Rakim Black Star Run the Jewels EPMD UGK Gang Starr Redman and Meth Ghost and Rae (technically never officially became a duo, but served as a duo on both of their debut albums) Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff (if the Fatboys are on the list, you gotta show these two love) Kid N Play (if the Fatboys are on the list, you gotta show these two love and they had more staying power) Clipse 8Ball & MJG Duos almost always out shinned trios throughout hip hop and usually had just as much if not more of an impact on hip hop than trios. And I don't know if they had a great impact on hip hop, but out of love I have to add Smif n Wessun Camp Lo

You guys deserve so much more for the time and production that goes into these vids. Probably because the general public don’t appreciate the work that producers have on the culture. Most people don’t know who J Dilla even is.
@TheSunshineGroup7 жыл бұрын
From my research, Dilla was ALWAYS underappreciated. Even in Detroit, where he was raised, nobody gave a shit when he died (but they threw memorial parties in NYC and LA). Yeah man, most people don't give a fuck about producers except for other producers, but I think that general vibe is changing nowadays. I hear Dilla influence everywhere, and I know that all modern producers like me have a special place in their heart for Dilla (he changed my fucking life when I was handed Donuts). loFi hip hop is basically a Dilla Descendant music in my opinion. Dilla will earn his fame in due time. It is far too late, but I have noticed his attention significantly growing these past few years especially.
@johnoliverlobo56136 жыл бұрын
From my research, the type of people who insistently put Dilla and Doom high up on a pedestal are mostly white people who only listen to their albums and claim that they're true hip hop.
@TheSunshineGroup6 жыл бұрын
man, every producer droppin' beats nowadays owes much of their inspiration from Dilla. They all say it. Why do you seem so bitter about it? Yeah, I'm a white dude and yeah, I put Dilla on a pedestal, but that's because before I found him and his influenees, hip hop was...meh to me. I'm not a lyrical person, I like beats and loops, and Dilla mastered that shit. He made electronic music, dude, not just hip hop! He's from Detroit, the birthplace of techno and acid. He makes dope shit that reaches all people, including getting the attention of white people like me. If it wasn't for Dilla, I probably would still be strumming a guitar.

Duos can be argued to be better. But 4+ groups get really muddied and there's ALWAYS a star of the group or top two people that is being held down by the rest. Songs just arent long enough to get everyone on the track really and people lose interest at times.

That boy ain't right The only NWA album I have listened to is straight outta Compton, and while they are a VERY influential rap group, some of their music is subpar. Aye My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasty. Listen to Efil4zaggin, Not tryna to dickride Murs but it really is better than Straight Outta Compton, and the production is beautiful from Dre and Ren lyrics just prove that's he's truly underrated af. Thank you for bringing more history and breakdown. Filling in gaps and cracks. I'm sure there's a reason you left out BBD, 2 Live Crew, Naughty by Nature, and NERD. I don't know if you consider some of them 2 member acts with a producer /DJ, but BBD was an iconic trio that kept HH/RnB hot on the airwaves through the 90s. Before Kanye claiming the fashion icon status, BBD. To add to the list of fly influential XL acts to follow the Fat Boys, there was Heavy D, Chubb Rock, and Missy Elliott (not a diss to Missy). Can't wait to get my history right with Murs narrative. Perspective so balanced, respect for your talent, they say power corrupts, but Murs lookin valiant, spiritually sahlient, or should I say salient, silence sounds so deadly, write wrong rhymes without a melody, this could be considered comment comedy, like MC battles on 106 & Park be, you didn't expect to read bulls hit rhymes so sincerely sorry.

Me personally idc...hip hop/rap is black culture and so black artists get props first period (before white "artists") for being first hand members of the community and giving back to the culture with their talent and art...beastie boys music isnt even better than tribe's or wu tangs....smh
@henrymunoz92197 жыл бұрын
Public Enemy is the best Hip-Hop group of all time, followed by Wu-Tang Clan.... Starting with the third position, all bets are off... There's too much to debate! Personally, I'd go with Run DMC, Eric B & Rakim, Boogie Down Productions, NWA because they all changed the game! Then groups like EPMD, Mobb Deep, A Tribe Called Quest, OutKast, Digable Planets, Fugees, Gang Star, Digital Underground, Whodini, Salt N Pepa and De La Soul have to be considered as well... This whole Greatest Group conversation can go on forever with a consensus just as elusive as the great GOAT debate!

Great video.. to further expound - the trio of sounds in a band is drums, bass, and guitar. It isn't hard to recognize that the Beastie Boys reflect the instruments they play also as vocalists in the sound of their band. High pitched Adrock - guitar, rhythmic Mike D - Drums, and gravelly voiced MCA - bass. I always thought that the Geto Boys had a very similar chemistry in their sound. Scarface, although he is a guitar player, represents the rhythmic center- drums. Willie D - passionate high register vocals - guitar and Bushwick Bill with his deep voice is the bass.

We need a Hilltop Hoods brake down. One of the biggest hip hop names in an english speaking country, yet I'm not sure I have ever heard them mentioned on HipHopDX. The current trio has been together since ~2000 and has a prolific catalog. Many times they have reached the #1 position on the Australia album charts but I NEVER hear them even mentioned in the US.

To me it's duo's. Hard to beat the energy of two people vibing and bouncing dope ideas off of each other.

YOUR RAP SKILLS I’ts not a top ten greatest rapper list. Look at the like button , and whatever the last number is , you and the rapper that matches that last number has the same amount of skill. 1. MF DOOM 2. Jay z 3. Eminem 4. Murs 5. Nas 6. Kendrick Lamar 7. Lupe Fiasco 8 Andre 3000 9. Krs-1 10. Lil Wayne

Please do make a breakdown on the beastie boys, I just found out a couple days ago that people actually took them seriously, and I can’t believe I missed out for so long. People NEED TO KNOW
@Brosefinho7 жыл бұрын
Umm I’m gonna have to disagree I like beastie boys but definitely not the greatest rap group of all time
@higglyjuff7 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same. Run DMC were just better in that same era, then groups like NWA, Treacherous Three, Naughty By Nature etc. were all just flat out more important/ better.
@regirayquaza7 жыл бұрын
higglyjuff Don't get their importance twisted. Licensed to Ill was the first rap album to be #1 on the Billboard 200.

Dub Dueces I'm not talking greatest, I'm talking important.
@higglyjuff7 жыл бұрын
regirayquaza They are hardly as important as NWA. And they aren't close to being as good as the likes if Naughty by Nature. Not all of the groups I mentioned were necessarily more important to the culture, and I never stated such things.

higglyjuff Dr. Dre, especially early on, took heavy inspiration from the Beastie Boys.

Rey Cruz 305 yes sir you are correct for one album they were. And for one album they weren’t. Then they disbanded. And neither was as impactful as Busta solo. They could’ve had an honorable mention. Yes. But time...
@harrymsimuko15187 жыл бұрын
Rey Cruz 305 I stand corrected. I still don't see why De La wasn't mentioned.

What about TRU? Master P, Silkk da Shocker & C-Murder, they first album “TRUE” felt more a compilation but their 2nd to 4th albums were just mainly the 3 brothers and their 2nd album “Tru 2 Da Game” is one of southern hip hops greatest gems. Ijs tho

While you might not agree with Murs opinions on who’s better than the other, you can not doubt or give this man shit on his knowledge of hip-hop. A genuine host that is devoted to the craft that we all know and love, makes for one hell of a show. And for that, we solute you Murs!
