Farhat Ishtiaq’s write romance the best. An interesting observation I had when comparing the romances of KRQ & Farhat is that if you remove the dialogues from KRQ’s dialogues, they don’t hold as well as they would since he tells us how great their romance his (thanks to his windy yet powerful dialogues) while Farhat Ishtiaq shows us what it really is. It could be dancing in the rain, to eating ice cream, to walking in the park. Her romance holds up really well because her characters are so deep and beautiful. They grow with each other, their romance is slowly built with well-written conversations telling about their vices, dislikes and cracking the wall. Her male characters are written so positively but complex as well: Asfand from YKS & Mustafa comes to mind. While it is hard to write a complex narrative, it is equally hard to write a simple story engaging and entertaining. This shows that while we yearn for new or complex stories, we are still fans of a simple yet effective romance. No wonder SRK is still remembered as Raj or Rahul. This is what Farhat has mastered in. She & Umera are my favourite writers and I will watch anything that has their name on it. It interesting tho how contrasting their styles are. P.S: I think Saima Akram is underrated in the romance category as well. Her enemies to lovers trope is overused, but it still stings your heart. Meenu-Faaz; Billu-Pari.

Enjoyed the discussion!!! I do disagree that Umera Ahmed’s characters don’t grow, it’s just they grow mostly in a negative shade than positive. Her dramas almost always explore the dark shades of humanity but they do develop nonetheless. In Man of Salwa, Zainab went from a poor girl to a revenge-driven diva who wreaks havoc on those who wronged her and destroys herself. In JSA, Tabassum went from a naive fangirl to a materialistic woman to a redeemed girl. Her male characters, however, are erratic and dark shaded people like Aswad, Nauman, Mansoor and Salman. She, ironically, highlights the plights of women in a patriarchal society and how they are complete within themselves. It’s the women who grow predominantly: Zara went from a poor girl who got caught up with class difference to a self-respecting woman standing up for herself; Kashaf went from a bitter and ungrateful person to being thankful for her life; Momina went from hating her profession to wholeheartedly accepting it.

Great discussion Very true why cant Bilal abbas, Ahmed or Wahaj do a Farhat Ishtiaq drama tehy would be so good. I like Ahad but this is ridiculous that even the upcoming dramas have Ahad in them🤦🏻♀️ however wasnt bilal abbas supposed to do kmkt? I heard a rumor that he couldnt do it and thats why Fahad did it but Im not sure. I dont know if you guysbahve that info but either way its Hum that is the problem and its not like they dont give Bilal or Ahmed good projects so why not a Farhat Ishtiaq one?

Well we all love Farhat Ishtiaq's work, I don't like the repeated theme of women falsely accusing men of harassment. It was in YKS then Spoiler Alert ⚠️⚠️⚠️ In JBHSSL as well!! And that character is so dark in the book. She has no redemptive arc whatsoever!!

I think she manages to treat that angle very responsibly so nothing wrong in showing it
