Ever wished you could make a loser disappear? No, I’m not talking about your opponent who just groaned at your brilliant bidding, lol, I mean a real disappearing act in your play.
Here’s a little bridge magic: you can conjure up 12 tricks by first tossing a loser from a three-card suit, then ruffing the fourth card in that suit to set it up as a winner, and finally using that winner to ditch another pesky loser from a third suit.
Think of it like a well-orchestrated heist. First, you quietly dispose of some evidence (a loser on a side suit). Next, you smash open the safe (ruff your long suit to establish it). And finally, you stroll out the front door with the loot (using your newly-minted winner to discard another loser). Voila! The contract is yours.
So next time you’re staring down an awkward 12-trick contract, remember: a little discarding, a little ruffing, and a little suit-establishing can turn your hand into a winner. Now that’s bridge magic!
