The Magnificent Seven and their magnificent theme. Great movie, great music. They had the ill fortune to be up against the theme from Exodus at the Academy Awards in the year they came out, and lost to that movie. But the nomination alone is great result - for a western.

If you have seen the original movie, this music is awe-inspiring and at the same time just a little sad, knowing the outcome of the story. Bernstein captured exactly the mood of those who fight for justice, but will never truly be recognized for their sacrifice.

Far better than the BBC Philharmonic version I've just watched - clicky and exciting. Here it's all down to the conductor - lovely clear timing. He lets the band rock out when they are free to and grips them when it counts. Hey - just seen that it's the conductor that's posted the video! If only they all could be like you.
