Or they could pull a “Good Omens” (spoilers ahead). I’m pretty sure that at the end everything resets and it’s as if nothing happened at all?? Maybe I’m remembering it wrong, but I think they all forget about it-except for demons and angels, of course… maybe the same could happen in TMA? Where only the avatars (if any survive) are able to recall it? Idk 🤷‍♀️

@@SxcheschkaI think it’s because most people naturally are more protective of kids. It’s not that kids are more deserving of rescue, just that they also are more vulnerable and less emotionally equipped to handle torture to most adults. An adult in one of the other horrors, even if they are suffering literal hell, can at least rationalize what’s happening to them, but kids have such simplistic minds that going through the same thing will fuck up their psychology irreparably.

You only need to be harmed by a Power to be touched by it, and children can be harmed without really, physically hurting them. Jon was touched by the Mother of Puppets simply by part-reading "A Guest for Mr Spider" and nothing ever ACTUALLY happened to him. Callum was touched by the Dark because it scared him, and that's all it needed to do.

it also depends, the fears if they can prefer the juicest prey, but they will feed on anyone, the distortion described itself as a "bear trap" and anyone who walks in their doors is screwed lmao (except for those too oblivious to notice). so yes, in situations like when the girl in the train-in-the-buried where she made peace with death and calmy waited to be crushed, it couldnt feed on her, but 99% of the time, even if being buried alive isnt a phobia you have at all, when youre about to die by being crushed, youre bound to be horrified

Martin really needs to make make ups his mind whether he wants Jon to be a sociopathic killer or a normal human. He is very much: Martin: Kill all the monster people, Jon! *Jon kills an avatar* Martin: Why did you do that?! That was mean.

It's like Martin is trying so desparately to build a new moral code in a world where trying to do good is practically impossible. He knows Jon has powers and can make a difference but theyre still not the type of powers that can change the world for the better and that truly sucks

To be fair, I think Martin has been the most fair to Jon. He’s been generally supportive through this, simply struggling to reconcile his feeling of “right and wrong” in a world like the one they are now traversing. I think this was the first instance where he really couldn’t decide what he wanted Jon to do. It makes me feel very bad for Jon, but in this case I can understand Martin as well.

i don't think anyone like you really "hates" children, that's just the better word to describe the feeling, but rather when looking at children we are capable of seeing the implications of their existance, empathy makes us wish they all have someone to care for them but because we don't want or are capable of handling the burden we'd rather stay away. no responsibility to care for them or be patient about their understandable immature behaviours or typical negative aspects.

the one thing i really like about the magnus archives' writing is its versatility (especially as seen during this season with all the different formats of statements in each domain) cause like the prose can be really wordy if it's a statement usually in the form of a letter from the 19th century but it can also be really simple like this one! (this feels like one of those scary stories parents/older people would tell their children so they don't stay up late or go out at night)

oh and i also love the moral dilemma in this one! initially, martin thought that jon HAD to (hell, morally obligated even) smite whoever was 'in charge' of this domain even though he fully knew that would only rid the domain of its 'supervisor' (if you will) and not necessarily save everyone suffering in it (which are children in this case). so after finding out that callum was in charge and he was also 'a kid', martin hesitated telling jon to smite callum bcs it would only result in the death of a child (though an evil one)

I know who Elias, jon, Martin, Tim, and Sasha are. Everyone else I have absolutely no idea, I didn’t think I had to remember all the names and at this point I have no idea what’s even happening

Calem Brodie was a victim in a statement. Martin and Jon remember the statements, but we have to check Wiki.

i like the conflicting feeling both jon and martin have at this point in the story - on one side, they are trying to do smth to save the world, on the other, jon is losing humanity and becoming more of an entity the more he uses his powers (and he tries to anchor his humanity on martin/his feelings for him, making him choose what to do). martin himself is understandably lost, trying to do the right thing when there is nothing right in this world, hoping for jon's powers to change smth because it's hopeless otherwise (and i think the web is trying to influence him as well). they can't just do nothing but don't know what they can do. and it frustrates one or the other with each new domain. i see people taking sides every episode but in reality, with so much going on and no way out, it's a wonder they still haven't completely lost it. also, jonah probably hopes jon will become a full-on entity after all 14 domains

Here’s the thing usually only a couple TMA episodes really spoke me. But this one I don’t know. Something so far and unreal but close in the way that this is something we all grew up with. The children in the background genuinely made it hard to listen to this one. Well done rusty quill for another terrifying episode :,)

The style of writing in this episode felt a bit Neil Gaiman-y to me, probably because of the frightened children.

There have definitely been other episodes that hit me harder than this one just personally, but this is a really interesting one. Also the use of my name was...unexpected 😂 first time that's ever happened, but hey I'm not dead! Trapped in a...fear landscape hell...but alive?

Maybe they'll reveal a reason why later but- can't they just take people with them? If Jon can protect Martin he can protect others right? You won't be able to save everyone but you could probably save a few.

minor spoilers: i doubt Jon KNEW this since he can't see Georgie/Melanie, but they're helping others escape. However, when their numbers grow too high, monsters break in and take those they've rescued back into domains, so their efforts kinda go to waste in that regard.

I love that while the majority of the Avatars understand what's going on and worship their patrons (despising all others), Callum doesn't give a shit about that. Sure, he knows about "the eye man" (or something like this), but he is just a traumatized bully. He doesn't want to appease his god. He wants other kids to suffer like he did. That's exactly what some kids do. Thank you for this outstanding masterpiece, that's amazing💔

There's something nostalgic about tales of children who treat other children like crap just for entertainment. It's not a pleasant topic, but it does happen.

i was wondering how long it would take to see the darkness corner when i was in the web's episode, and i got struck by this, this seriously kinda makes me uncomfortable in some way, i have an absolute paranoia of the dark, and just hearing accurate things that are happening to these kids makes me uncomfy a bit

Am I the only one who was thoroughly annoyed at Martin? Does he not realize by now there is no “better”? If Jon knew a way to make things better he’d do it, no need rubbing his helpless power in Jon’s face. Not to mention I think Martin should listen to Jon’s statements, if he actually cared about the suffering of these people and what Jon is going through.
