new listener here so no spoilers pls but I was 100% sure that the reason Laura Popham had so many "errors" in her statement in Lost Johns' Cave wasn't just because of trauma & guilt but smth else was involved as well and here we have it: i think this ep and ep15 are the only ones so far to describe a thin pale hand. probably that same creature (or same *kind* of creature) stole laura's permit to explore the cave (since there was no record of a permit given to her), stole the map (hence her sister's confusion when she says she followed the map exactly) and gave her the candles. it most likely took her sister as well, the same way it took the husband here. maybe even gave her the camera, though that's a little less likely since it would've kinda exposed the creature? either the map or the permit were somehow cursed and stole stuff then disappeared as well, or Laura had an object, like the vase, that i don't remember or wasn't mentioned in the episode. just a theory ig but i've been dying to understand what happened in that episode since I was so confused with it.

I remember thinking not 3 episodes ago about people who say "If you have a fear, then there's a Magnus Archives episode for you" or something like that. And I thought that I didn't have any real fears outside of complex trauma-related ones. But then... this episode. The moment I read the premise in the description I knew this was mine. Because I misplace things so often. Sometimes I find them again, sometimes I don't, but it's often that when I need things they aren't where I remember leaving them or I don't remember where I put them at all. There are times where I have these big spikes of anxiety whenever I reach for my phone or bus pass or whatever other important item, thinking it will have vanished because I'm so forgetful and disorganized. And God, never in a million years would it have occured to me that this is a fear that could be spun into a nightmarish manifestation of my personal hell packaged neatly a 15 minute story, tied up with a bow. Losing my things, living with a fear that people around me are gaslighting me, (Trauma induced fears are fun,) then losing my spouse, and everyone swearing none of these things or people ever existed? Both personally heart-wrenching and terror-inducing. It's gonna take me a little while to fall asleep tonight. On a semi-related note I mentioned how this neat package of a story is tied up with a bow. Can we talk about that bow for a second? The ending?? The overarching mystery??? Jon's shout made me jump so hard and due to the fact I had the podcast pulled up on KZbin on the TV it woke up my aunt in the next room, who promptly told me to go to sleep. I'm so fucking excited and scared to see where this goes next aaaaaaaahhhhh

Any episode with Selesa and a cursed object is an amazing one. Not that I don’t love a good Leitner or a monster or a cursed location, but there’s something about these evil things that captures my imagination. As well as a dude who sells them! It’s like when you deep dive Control lore and find out there’s a black market trade for altered materials.

Ok ok ok so when it hit the quiet "sasha run" my stomach dropped, and then when it hit the "RUN!!!" My heart just exploded. I actually had to put my headphones down and run to the kitchen to splash some water on my face because I started hyperventilating. But it's sad because when I came back to listen to it again it had lost the power. Welp, guess I'll have to keep listening on! What a shame.

Yeahhh I have something similar happen to me. I call it the Elizabeth Dimension (Elizabeth is my first name.) It seems I have this uncanny ability to lose things as soon as I put them down, like they’ve been swallowed by a void. I’m mostly joking when I gripe to myself “Ah, lost to the Elizabeth Dimension.” Mostly joking.

I personally have a theory that I'm not sure is true BUT either way Jon should know that killing spiders is not the best way to go. Now for my theory, I think the spiders are actually the natural enemies of the worms. And since we know that fire kills the worms I think the lighter with the spiderweb might actually be good for Jon? Also, they seem to have discovered a new passage but what I think is more important is that as soon as Jon killed the spider (or at least made it move) the worms turned up again. Now of course I might be wrong because I'm a 1st time listener but it's interesting to keep in mind
