Happy New Year Kate! I love it when I see a new video pop up on Saturday mornings! The magazine looks awesome. Thanks for sharing!

I Watched your review, bought the book and magazine. Fabulous. So far I've made the wrap skirt in Donegal tweed, now tested out the tee shirt in nightie fabric as a wearable test make. I just wanted to thank you.

Thanks, I've ordered it and am now waiting for its arrival in happy anticipation! My makes this year, apart from a simplicity pajama pattern for my other half and some tee shirts for him, is all going to be from the Merchant and Mills Workbook and Makers Atelier essentials collection. 🌟🌟🌟👍thanks

Really loved your review Kate, I'm definitely going to get it. Your enthusiasm is so infectious and I love the aesthetic of Makers Atelier. I have a coat pattern of theirs, but never seemed to have the funds to buy the wool to make it. Hopefully, the magazine will spur my enthusiasm on. Thank you Kate, yet again. 😘

Yeah getting the wool right is key - have you checked out the boiled wools on Dragonfly Fabrics - that would be a perfect pairing.. when the funds are there! www.dragonflyfabrics.co.uk/product-category/wool/boiled-wool-2/

Thanks Kate, great review. I have got a bit fed up with monthly sewing mags as they are a bit repetitive and I don't always like the free patterns. As a home cook and knitter I found the same with the monthly cooking and knitting mags. As they are priced around £6-7 I would rather buy a book or high end magazine a couple of times a year instead. I am now getting Making magazine two issues a year and Laine magazine three times a year. Looks a good read and have just ordered. Happy New Year to you and Rachel😊

I agree about the sewing magazines all being a bit samey, and it's nice to read interesting articles around the topic of sewing! I hope you enjoy reading!

Thanks Kate. I am drawn to magazines that are in line with the brand but also not just ABOUT BRANDING. Books/magazines that treat the reader/consumer as a smart, educated and discerning consumer, with little fluff. It looks from your review that Makers Atelier nailed it. A magazine that will make you feel that it is about creativity and you the consumer (rather than just about their brand and selling). This is not always easy to do! I hope they do well with this magazine.

Yes, I think I want this! You happened to mention styles for older women, any chance of more on this? I am post retirement age and am finding it so hard not to have the 'mutton dressed as lamb' look!
@TheFoldLine7 жыл бұрын
Yes I'll have a think about how we could do this.. i'd be worried that i'd end up sounding condescending. Out of interest what are you looking for in terms of clothing? Shape, style, bits you want covered, bits you want out etc!
@pamelacooke56987 жыл бұрын
Thanks for considering this! Trying to answer you has made me really think about what I need. I'm OK for casual day to day, I try to cover legs (and arms too now!), but the trouble arises when I need to look a little smarter. I mostly wear tunics and long tops over jeans or trousers, so maybe I need tunics in smart fabrics? I have a straight up and down shape, little definition at the waist.

I just ordered my copy. Note to anyone curious about North American orders: I'm in Canada, and with exchange rate and shipping, it came to $38CD. I was a bit torn, because I can buy The Maker's Atelier book for less than that, but I went ahead anyway. What with all that money I save by sewing, I can afford a little splurge. Right?? :)

That looks like a beautiful magazine. But I actually have a question- problem. My daughter bought 2 patterns (1 for 4-way stretch fabrics and 1 for knits only) then she purchased some beautiful (expensive) woven, shear, thin, see through type fabrics that I am nervous to use with these patterns. Is there a formula to add ease into these or should I tell her she has to get different patterns or fabric? Your help and opinion would be GREATLY appreciated!
@TheFoldLine7 жыл бұрын
To be totally honest I wouldn't use a woven fabric for a knit project especially a sheer woven like that. The patterns are cut with the fabric used in mind eg knit patterns are cut with negative ease taking into account the stretch. Unless she's a quite experienced dressmaking I would suggest getting a different pattern for her wovens and look out for some new jersey fabrics. All in all she gets to buy more sewing stuff which is never a chore!

I wish this magazine and patterns had not gone digital only. I would love to have had this magazine but I despise digital only magazine and patterns.

Dude, there's nothing new about magazines with free sewing patterns :). You guys are very sweet but the very few times I try one of your videos I always get bored waiting for you to get to the point and show us the subject - instead there is way too much fold line ladies on camera. No offence, you're both very sweet:) - but time is short in the modern world.
