You need English subtitles! These are all so interesting but there are so many questions. What are these and what are they used for?

These are Japanese Daruma dolls and are a symbol of luck and perserverance. You fill in one eye as you make a wish and when the wish is fulfilled you fill in the other eye. In Japan they hold a spiritual festival once a year where everyone returns their dolls to the temple they were purchased, express gratitude, and get new ones for the new year as the temple monks burn them after they perform a spiritual ritual.

The Daruma Doll is ( very ) loosely modeled after Bodhidharma, the founder of the Zen tradition of Buddhism. Bodhidharma was a Buddhist monk who lived during the 5th/6th century AD. He is traditionally credited as the transmitter of Zen Buddhism to China, which later came to Japan. Little contemporary biographical information on Bodhidharma exists, most of what is told is legend. Throughout Buddhist art, Bodhidharma is depicted as an wide-eyed non-Chinese, possibly from the Indian subcontinent.
