Impressive free-hand routing! How'd you get the edge straight without a jig or guide?

Thank you! The secret is in the bit. The round over and cove bit both had a Glide Radius Bearing that helped move the bit in a straight line using the wood as a guide. Hope this helps you. Keep doing good!

So I'm working to build a smaller one with longer arms as extra cookie decorating space with some drawers in it. I have an idea in mind that I'm going to sketch out. How sturdy will these types of tables be just using the leaf supports? Should I make extra legs?

You have a great idea, what a fun project! My table was pretty sturdy using my sliding leaf support. However, I would ask if the drop leaf table design is a good fit for using a sliding leaf support, an apron leaf support, or even a triangle hinge swing support. I needed to use a sliding leaf support for my project since my design did not include an inside apron. If you want to include drawers in the center table piece then I would design your table with an apron so you could use an apron leaf support. When you use sliding leaf supports drawers can block the slides. I would not think you would need extra legs since your are using the table for cookie decorating but if you do decide you need them it can always be an add on. I hope this helps and if you have any other questions just let me know. Keep me posted on how it goes - DoGood!!!

hey! would it make sense to couple every hinge you attach, to use the same amount of leaf supports? the table i plan to modify will extend along the length of the table and i will be using the table mainly for my laptop and meals. I just want to make sure there will be enough support , should i put my arms on it with additional pressure. thanks :)

Hi Amy! The more support the better. It definitely can't hurt if you couple every hinge with a support. There are different types of supports you can use for the leaves. There are sliding metal supports (the ones I used) and supports you can fasten to the table legs. Choose which one that you think will work best for you! Keep doing good!

I'm building a kitchen island and need to add a drop leaf on one side. The height of the counter is 36". What would you recommend is the maximum width of the drop leaf, just under 36"? Also, what type of support would you recommend. Thanks.

Hey Stan, that is a fantastic idea adding a drop leaf to a kitchen island. I would say the width of the drop leaf should match the width of the width of the counter top. However, the leaf extension that is fastened to the island top can be as long as the height of the island provided it has very strong supports and doesn't touch the floor. The supports for the leaf depends mostly on the length and weight of the leaf. I used Rockler metal drop leaf supports but you also can try swivel brackets. If you think the leaf is going to hold a lot of weight, I would suggest folding legs. They can be stored underneath the leaf and if your leaf has an apron around the outer edges the legs would be hidden. Those are a few of my recommendations but there are also many other ways. So, find what works best for you. I am excited for your build and hope everything turns out great. Keep doing Good!!👍

Could you tell me more about the metal slides that you used. Where did you get them? What are they called? Thanks a bunch.

Hey Ashley, the slides I used were Metal Drop leaf supports from Rockler. You can purchase them on their website at Rockler.com. I love this store!
