@@badinski_1195 My own opinion on this is that there’s no direct representation of Egyptian culture in this film but there is an overarching reconstruction of the ancient world that touches on Egypt in certain ways. But to me there’s little that would be ascribed to Egypt that couldn’t be more readily ascribed to ancient Sumer, Mesopotamia, Hattusa etc…With that said, I think the Egypt angle is an interesting one and could lead to some interesting observations.

This is by far the best of the Conan movies. Better obviously than the second film and much better than the film that came out a couple of years ago. The first Conan film does take from some elements of the books. The others don't...not at all. The music is what makes the film imo. It's perfect for the genere. It isn't perfect, however. It doesn't put the book Conan in the correct light. If one wants to do a great Conan movie, they must take from the books directly. Having read all of them many times, there is a huge variety of stories to tell.

They should really revisit Oliver Stone's original conception of Conan if they ever decide to bring back then character to the screen again. I don't count the last horrible attempt at it with Jason Mamoa. He could have been a great Conan, but the story and screenplay behind that one was weak and just horrible. If they did it right, and got the right screenplay to take the story and characters seriously like they did in 1982, it could have really worked.

The project was the comic book adaptation of Sgt Rock, being packaged by uber-producer Joel Silver, and there was real consideration given to bringing the three together in the one project. Schwarzenegger was attached, but we suspect it was the budget that ultimately kyboshed the idea. Sgt Rock is, however, still in development, and recently was linked to Bruce Willis. Franchises like "Harry Potter", "Batman", and "The Hunger Games". These films tend to get made people who are enthusiastic about telling the story. Also, respect for the source material has led to the phenomenal success of films like "The Lord of the Rings" and television series like "Game of Thrones".

I think they don't want to risk showing things that might cause an uproar, I don't know. Conan's world is more violent than in the movie, tons of tavern wenches and prostitutes, back-alley thugs....but hell, it's also more realistic and much richer! Today, in a fight, they would try to portray him as a total badass instead of a raw, quasi-animalistic cimmerian warrior. Also they would try to imprint modern day ideals and behaviour, which conan doesn't have, of course. ah...by Crom, I'm ranting again. I would totallly support a Conan TV show, like game of thrones(nice budget, nice actors, accurate portrayal of living conditions...)

I don't think Arnold made a great interpretation of Conan(not saying it was entirely his fault though, can't think of a better actor in that time for this but script does count too)...it's just that Conan world is so much more, this felt like a single-issue comic story, left me feeling like they left so many things out that would have made it better

Conan comes to me in my dreams every night, speaking in ancient language I don't understand. I think he's trying to tell me I'm about to die.

***** Yes. According to the story, Howard exclaimed that the "words and pages POURED onto my typewriter without me even thinking what to write." Fantastic.

Even though Conan is referring to the Cimmerian rather than the Christian god, on television they always cut out the part of Conan's prayer where he says, "and if you do not listen, then the hell with you"!

It's not "co-NAAN", people, it's "COE-nan" -- like the Holy ROMAN empire, like Sir Arthur CONAN Doyle - are these guys that completely unfamiliar with European culture and history?
