7 years later and its still the absolute pinnacle of theme park theming and immersion. It looks to me like the only land that can compete is Super Nintendo World. Diagon Alley is truly the benchmark by which all other theme park theming is measured.

I can say that the interactive wands and butterbeer sales are KILLING IT. Everyone's kid seemed to have a wand and the parents were chugging just as much butterbeer as the kids! One warning: HOT butterbeer is a seasonal item. You only get it from around October to the end of January (call Universal to find out exactly when they stop serving the hot drink). Also, if you want butterbeer ice cream, there really is a Fortescue's ice cream parlor in Diagon Alley. It's good and has a light butterscotch taste. One warning, consider getting something at Fortescue's before 2 pm. It can get pretty crowded later in the afternoon. You could have your partner watch the kids outside while you pick up the ice cream inside. Because Diagon Alley is small, there are no tables inside the shop.

Your not kidding! I was considering buying an authentic Hufflepuff Robe from the parks but decided against it because the price was $135! Plus $20 to add your name!and not to mention taxes on top of everything. But I have been to the parks a few times and loved it every time truly wonderful

Was just there 2 days ago for the second time. The architecture and music really transfer you into another world. Beats Disney hands down!!

Universal is in my backyard so I was there at the red carpet event and Diagon Alley for opening day. It was one of the best days ever.

Really want to go back to Florida now!! I'm British, and I know some people say it should be built in the UK, but let's face it, the weather in Florida is so much better than in the UK so they can have it open all year round as apposed to half of the year!

I find it a bit hilarious that you mentioned the weather. I went in January and that's literally winter season for Florida. It was chilly (temperatures never got near 72d F) but that didn't stop the Brits, Scots and Australians from flooding into the park. Do most Brits tend to visit in January or mid-year?

I HATE theme parks with passion. But ever a potterhead, my daughter talked me into going to Universal Studios. The entire Harry Potter world was like stepping into the story. We explored it for 4 full days and never stopped being amazed. Absolutely worth it. Loved every minute of it.

This is fascinating! I visited universal orlando 3 years ago, having never watched or read a harry potter book. I was oblivious to the whole story. When we visited I was compelled to start watching the movies. Ive seen them all many times now, and fully appreciate the details of these areas in universal studios. Its fantastic

So was Ollivander’s moved from Hogsmeade? Or just built and replaced in the village. That always bothered me when I went to the one in Hollywood, that Ollivander’s was in Hogsmeade. Also, are the characters nicer to potential Slytherins? Cause I remember the Forbidden Journey in Hollywood to again be very pro-Gryffindor. I thought the world evolved to a more pleasant reception to Slytherins. Even Sallazar was mean to me, I mean it was just a video, but I was kinda hoping that if I was wearing my robes, the video would have scanned the patch and like, singled me out as a Slytherin or something. Did the resentfulness against Slytherins transcend to the parks? I know the staff are kind to people dressed in Slytherin robes, so I would hope the characters would extend the same optimistic pleasantries. Maybe once I get my wand, I too will make my pilgrimage to Universal Studios Orlando and experience the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade for myself. I of course am watching this in my robes now.

You've got the movie sets. There are only two companies in the world that would spend this much on a themed attraction, and the one that did win it and did it right is NBC/Universal. Nobody in the UK has a theme park that could've done this.

The jobs you're talking about in entertainment projects like this require a lot of skill and talent. Demanding to have a high amount of native employees instead of hiring by skill will harm the quality of the product in the end.

Too many stores. Not enough rides. Gringotts more screens. If they would have used the template from The Forbidden Journey it would been a better ride. 50/50 screens/animatronics. Beautiful theming throughout but should have had another attraction. The dragon should have been an animatronic.
