I really like this lady. Unfortunately as a total newbie that has never been behind a sewing machine before, I was totally lost. Im trying to teach myself how to sew but Im gonna need basic beginners lessons. This video is probably made for the experienced sewer in mind. The results are beautiful, hopefully I will get to a stage in my sewing that I can make a wrap dress that looks this good!!😁

LOVE LOVE LOVE this dress and your channel. I learn how to sew at school more than 25 years ago. When I was a teenager I used to sew my clothes because my parents did not had money for buy all the clothes wished by a girl. At 19, when I got my first job, I forgot my mom`s old sewing machine. A year ago, I bought a new one and rediscovered the pleasure of making my clothes with my own hands. I´m journalist and in my country, Mexico, is a so stressing job,... sewing is now my therapy... I`m obsessed with wrap dress, really. It would be GREAT GREAT GREAT IF YOU SHARE HOW YOU TRACE THIS PATTERN. Sorry if my English is not as perfect as I wish... I LOVE BRITISH ACCENT. Some years ago, I visited UK “only“ because I was in Paris (I work for a French firm)... Sorry for the Frenchs, but London was a BIG UNEXPECTED SURPRISE... When I saw the Parlament was like been on a fairly tale, better than the Eiffel tower... and the British are so gente and warm people... CHEERS FROM MEXICO CITY

Thanks Susanne for another inspiring video I look forward to watching every week. And the tip with the stretch tape, omitting the facing part, very smart. Love the fabric as well. I have tried out my new coverstitch machine finally. I did buy if mainly for knits but so far have only used it for knit dresses for the kids. (And I also love new sewing machines). Your twin stitching on the hems work just as well. Just admire your pattern blocks. Keep up the amazing work.
@SewCustom6 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Melinda💕👍💕 love that tip👍 I'm glad you got to try your new overstitch machine, maybe I'll stick to the twin needles for now 🤔 I was looking through my pattern stash and found the M6886 pattern which is a really basic knit dress but I think it could be perfect for a knit block...... I haven't compared it to my block yet but from the cover I'm nearly sure it would work..... you would just need to cut it at the waist and you should then have a block for the bodice and skirt without all the drafting😉😍 I've kept it out for when I film my makes video, hopefully I'll remember to include it☺️ Hopefully this is helpful🤞🍀😍
@Mellie7266 жыл бұрын
thank you Susanne! I will definitely look for that pattern. I must confess I did buy the book "Patternmaking Made Easy" by Holman I believe. didn't get into it yet but looks intimidating. I will make the time for it, but in the meantime I will try that pattern. thanks so much!
@Mellie7266 жыл бұрын
Hi Susanne, did buy the M6886 have it on my plans list to make some blocks. Felt like I was cheating so watched Felicity Zee on you tube and after hours on end created a block including a sleeve block. haven't made anything out of it yet but felt so accomplished today as I did a great fit job from a woven pattern, Simplicity 2247 which is an Amazing Fit pattern and used scuba instead of the woven. Wish I could send it here but I can't. Nevertheless, I am on an upward spiral and it's all because of your videos and everything one can garner on You Tube. I used to think that fit was not important once I had my daughter many years ago and use to throw out more garments than I can tell you about because I never took the time, Unless I could just make a straight size 12 and it fit perfectly I never bothered fitting anything and threw things out with reckless abandon. thank you for your help, and It's still "all about the journey",
@SewCustom6 жыл бұрын
Oh Melinda, i'm so pleased for you👏👏👏, its fantastic to have a breakthrough and gives a brilliant confidence boast👍👍👍 And to draft your own blocks, brilliant 👍👍👍 Once you get the chance to use them hopefully you'll find that you won't experience the usual fitting problems we come up against with commercial patterns, absolutely brilliant👍👌I really love KZbin as a resource for learning, if it hadn't have been for all the fantastic teachers I really admire I wouldn't have been able to sew a seam😍 I'm so pleased for you Melinda and long may the upward spiral continue❤️👍❤️

Also appreciate you showing all the tools you use, such as the sleeve roll. Makes such a difference to have the right tools. Speaking of tools ,what is the make and model of your overlock machine? I’m a bit afraid of the needle threading on them but you make it look so useful. Also, would you ever buy a cover stitch machine? I used one when I worked at a football jersey factory years ago. Industrial, of course, but it was wonderful and a great early sewing experience for me.
@SewCustom5 жыл бұрын
I agree it does make a huge difference having the right tools 👍 I'll add this to the list 👍👍👍 My overlocker is a Brother 143d and I love it💕 I know what you mean about the threading, I was exactly the same when I first got the machine but I promise after using it regularly its not scary at all👌 I have thought about a cover stitch machine but I'm not sure it would be value for money for me just yet, maybe in the future🤔 how fabulous to get that experience, I would have loved that 💕💕💕

Hi Suzanne, can I ask, what settings do you have your overlocker on when you stitch up your scuba, thankyou.

You did a fantastic job of that dress and it looked so elegant, it doesn't hurt that you have a super figure to go with it. I'm on the poofy (plump) side so I'm always worried that the wrap dress will,show the excess weight (which I'm trying hard to reduce) and draw attention to my nonexistent waist. Lol The material was colourful without being over the top. 👍🏼👍🏼
@SewCustom6 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Julie Hale👍💕 thats so lovely of you to say but I must admit I have quite a bit of structure going on underneath, the kind that keeps everything in place and smooths everything out, I'm not sure I could get away with wearing these wrap dresses without the structure👍😉 😍 Thanks again, such lovely comments and good luck with the weight loss🍀🤞

Hi Suzanne, fantastic make and you make it look super easy and the pleats were such a lovely addition 💞. I have the Brother 1034D which I think is what you have. Could you tell me what needles you use in in yours and what brand as I'm a bit nervous to change the one it came with 😏..... crazy I know..... Thanks so much for sharing your skills again Susanne and so appreciated 👍😊😘
@SewCustom6 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Sally Dingle❤️👍 I had to think about this one as, to be honest, I don't change the needles as often as I think you're supposed to, usually just when I break one😟 When I have replaced them I think its just been with stretch/ball point needles and the brand is either Prym or lasse. I know what you mean about being nervous to change them, I was exactly the same the first time ☺️ I hope this helps and thanks again Sally Dingle❤️❤️❤️

Thank you for making this video. I'm just back from watching the green dress video, you mentioned, to see the neckline drafting. Thank you for all the tips as you draft and sew along. I may just pluck up the courage to draft my own wrap dress. I love how you treated the neckline, no fussing with facings. If this were woven would you use a facing?
@SewCustom6 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Vicki Frazier💕👍 drafting this was super challenging for me but I'm glad I stuck it out as I love the finished dress💕 I would definitely recommend drafting your own👍 for the neckline I have made a version of this one up in a bubble crepe fabric and did use a facing, I'm not as happy with this version though, more work to do🤔😍
