"It was never a calculation for us" In this day and age, where every video game company is about Numbers, Sale figures and focus groups that try to appeal to the most number of "consumers", That one simple line was very refreshing to hear, and it explains why people love these guys so much. Keep up the great work CDPR, and I'm certain the community will stick with you guys till the end

Maybe it did come off as naive, what i meant was CDPR still has this human element to them that makes me really like these guys. They feel above the corporate bullshit. At the end of the day they are still a business, But their consumer friendly practices makes them stand out from the crowd. Even gog is a really good platform

It's a bit of a shame that both witcher 1 and 2 just get quickly summarised in such a quick video, I understand that W3 is the big one, but the first two are fantastic games aswell.

There is almost two hours long polish documentary (with english subtitles thay you can turn on in options) done by arhn.eu about first attempt to create Witcher game (by Metropolis) and about CD Projekt's Witcher 1. Plenty of people who worked on both games are talking about it and shows materials from production (usually for the first time ever) - kzbin.info/www/bejne/nWKbeJp6YriBsK8

It has more to do with most developers realistically having difficulty recalling many of the details for games that happened so long ago, when they've worked on so many projects since. Whereas with Witcher 3, they just put the final touches (Blood & Wine) on a year and a half ago (and technically, some of the team is still working on the PS4 Pro/Xbox One X versions). Overall, I understand your point though. Certainly, those games deserve more attention. It's why NoClip is so critical. Stuff like this barely exists in this kind of format. Endless games deserving of the recognition that comes from examination.

yeah, these are meant for a mainstream audience, not RPG fans who can appreciate a good game even if it doesnt have buzzword design, like "Open World". Average Joe doesn't even know W1 and W2 exist.

3 is in many ways simply better, and in some significant ways neither better nor worse but different. Even though I think Witcher 3 is overall the greatest of the three, 1 and 2 each have a very distinct feel to them as well (in the soundtrack as well, eg. River of Life in 1 and Dwarven Stone upon Dwarven Stone in 2).

Thanks for another great video! Will this be all of the content relating to The Witcher 2? I did feel that there was a decent amount of content regarding the first game in this video, but the second game felt a little bit glossed over. The second game's story was incredibly political, and I'd have loved to hear them expound on that. Also, the console port, vastly different controls/gameplay when compared to the first game, etc.

@gourdtaste6018
@gourdtaste6018 7 жыл бұрын
They ran out of money, port and economic crisis and the whole selling part of the company thing, while making Witcher 2. They had to make the game smaller, cut act 4, (was going to be about the Hunt and Yennefer) and they had to rework the whole game and ac3 extensively to make it work, which also explains why Ac3 is as short as it is and the ending so... "left hanging". I dunno how it was meant to be specifically, but i assume meeting yen would have gone somewhat like the tutorial zone in W3, you meet her, maybe even the emperor bit as well, and then set off to find Ciri - insert W3
@thepetrifiedbard1646
@thepetrifiedbard1646 7 жыл бұрын
Thankyou, i knew there was going to be an act 4 but didn't know what it was going to be about. Alot of the creators in the doco seemed disappointed in the games tone and shift into grim darkness in comparison to the lighter tone of the first similar to the short stories.

"Every 1 hour it would crash, but I loved the game and thought 'This isn't going to stop me from playing'" Literally my exact thoughts with Cyberpunk 2077. It doesn't crash every hour, in fact way less than that on my base PS4, but I enjoy it so much that bugs and crashes just aren't enough to stop me from playing.

Dude same, most people just like to be vocal. I played it on launch with the million bugs and still appreciated all the damn time put into it. I actually had very little bugs, just horrible frames which I hate. The rest was a rich world and background, shocking missions (the one in the slaughterhouse was sick) and the guns were all pretty exciting despite the trash control scheme. All that and keanu reeves is with you the whole time legit putting on a GREAT show. Made the vee actor look like an amateur

To me what makes the witcher games amazing is they especially wildhunt captures that dark disease ridden medieval fantasy world like no other game ever have before in my opinion. And I have always wanted to play a dark medieval fantasy rpg. The other strength that the witcher franchise has is its writing and story telling wich is second to none and the characters and the humans you meet feel real and grounded like no other openworld has ever been able to capture before a good example of that is that the monsters and wicher Contracts you fullfill have deep tragic human backstories so it makes everything more grounded and real and it makes the player sympathize or even care for the monsters and characters you encounter. That's is all thanx to good writing and backstories.

Amazing documentary series. Thank you for it. I'm from Brazil and I knew about this game because I was a huge Bioware fan. I didn't have a legal way to buy it, this game wasn't on Steam, so, I looked for a torrent of this and only found a Russian very, very bad copy. At the time, I knew nothing about the books and the story, they are not published here in any language. When the enhanced edition came, I finally could play it. I played through ir two times in a row, and I still want to play it! Is amazing, finally a adult RPG, with such a rich environment! Then, when Witcher 2 came out, the books started to be published here, and when I read it, I could really understand more about the environment created on the game, and realized how CD Projekt is a huge fan of it, how important this history is for them, and made me like these games even more! Then came Witcher 2, and these is not my favorite of the trilogy, but It was amazing what a little polish company was doing, it is better than many others RPGs of this time. Then, Witcher 3, how ambitious this guys can be! Amazing story, all that elements that came from the books, and all following the same narrative lines. Many, many side quests with so much rich history! So, I'm a huge fan, of the series and of the studio that created it!. I still think The Witcher is the best computer RPG still made. Can't wait for Cyberpunk !!!

I recently played through The Witcher and the game blew me away. I had heard of its awful combat and dialogue but I really enjoyed it. The slightly cringy voice acting and click-to-kill combat system had a charm I seldom find in games. And the story was awesome, I read the books and the game keeps rewarding you for having done that with small dialogue options and mentions of characters from the series. I highly recommend this game to anyone interested in a story-focused rpg and can stand the dated textures. :)

Witcher 2 didn't get nearly the amount of limelight it deserves! W1 was interesting, quirky -- it was like a Polish Gothic. It definitely held promise for the completely new take on some game mechanics in RPG: combat, alchemy... And the way those mechanics fused with the lore was spotless. But ever since that W2 trailer, I knew exactly what to expect from W3. It was the level of quality that I didn't expect from a European publisher. It had all the qualities of a truly breathtaking world with intricate storylines. From the first moments, W2 is a blast. Everything from the way Geralt is implicated in the murder, right after a castle siege and a friggin' dragon! It's a damn shame W2 never gets the credit it's due.

Wish there was more Witcher 2 talk :/ For some reason it always seems to be overlooked.

Even though it's the biggest step they have taken, in terms of engine and combat style. But maybe that's why they regard it as but a stepping stone to Witcher 3, the big one.

The frame at 12:10 reads This production was funded entirely by the support of 4,444 Patrons. I was on 0.25x playback speed tapping play pause to find that out. 😂

Barely anything about Witcher 2 here. Almost an afterthought.

Well, it kind of is an afterthought in gaming too. And in CDPR's perception, it seems. They gave it away for free (that's how I got it), and you can find it on "pawn sites" for under 3 dollars. It sort of got relegated to the dustbin of gaming, which is really undeserved, if just for the fact that it is a Witcher game. But such is life, I guess. The 3rd game eclipsed the gaming industry itself, let alone it's prequels.

i agree the work put out in the politics itself is insane, surprised how cheap the game is, Totally deserves more of its worth

What if being a public company is the reason why they had to rush out Cyberpunk. My heart is still sad about what happened with that game, I love this company.

the witcher 1 felt so mature it made oblivion look like a kitty at least from a stylistic point of view.

I hope there will be more on the first two games, because this is skimming over almost everything interesting about them, as if only to get to the third one.

The funny thing about The Witcher 1 was that I live in the US and I knew about the game just from the trailer. That was all I needed to see to know I really wanted to play it, that said, I never bought it because my computer was not good enough. Even now I got a free copy of Witcher 2 and still don't have a good enough PC to play it very well. Witcher 3 is good enough to make up for lost time but I wish I could've supported the studio earlier.
