they had to be separated after the wedding because houchi was caught stealing three items to revive boxuan (baijue's body) after finding out where it was hidden. one of those items were supposed to suppress evil spirits and they accuse her of stealing it (which was false). in order for her to be able to save boxuan, she made a deal with the king that if he let her use those three items, she'll give up her goddess title and live in seclusion for 100 years.
