I wouldn't say that he was blind to Louis, he was well aware of everything, he just couldn't bring himself to act because it was his son. Kind of like when you need to kill your dog who is suffering from rabies, all those moments of that's my dog, I can't bring myself to kill him, come into play.

I love how any of us are justifying this as if we knew anything about French law and monarchy in the 17th century. Plus it’s just a movie, the real King Louis XIV according to history was actually a good king, also revered as The Sun King. Now King Henry VIII of England was WAY more evil than this character was.
