While I really enjoyed these, I do have some issues with them. I’m all for unique short KZbin horror especially ones that take inspiration from the Kid and the Camera, and like they’re good, I like them, and they show a lot of potential for him to hone his craft and make even better ones in the future, but they all feel like they’re missing something. Like comparing them to the Kid and the Camera again, that’s a very popular and influential short film because it knew exactly what it was doing, it knew how to build up a simple premise before introducing a seemingly supernatural element with good buildup before the final reveal of the “monster” (ie, the man in the basement) and then cutting to the result of the incident. It’s paced and formatted perfectly whereas these feel like they have some pacing and formatting issues. Like, taking the Man with No Mouth for example, the final scene of the Man eating the kid’s head felt… goofy. It would’ve been better if it just showed the shot of the kid turning around the see him and his shadow changing before cutting to the equation complete while the kid’s body was on the floor. Leave it up to the imagination instead of showing clay visuals that come off as way more goofy than they do scary. I dunno maybe that’s just my view on it. I feel like the reason the Kid and the Camera worked so well was because it only showed the photo of the man’s lower body and then the photo of the kid’s feet with the narrator saying that’s all that was ever found of him. It leaves what happened a complete mystery because sometimes what the mind can conjure up is far scarier than what’s shown on screen.
