Whether or not it was real, it manifested a being that affects all other emotions in the form of either PTSD or Psychosis. This all kind of makes sense as typically you don't act the same under the effects of Psychosis or under the right environment to trigger PTSD.

I feel like the "Corrupt Emotion" would be realistically be called "Trauma". That would make the most sense, considering what the first video is called, and when it popped up Riley was in a traumatizing situation presumably. Also, one thing of note that actually helps my idea rather than squander it is Joy's mentioning that Trauma was there before the accident. Joy states that it's been there for months, not years, meaning that it wasn't there for too long. Presuming Riley would be in her mid to late teens, it could be assumed that she caught some teen hormones, thus making Trauma and these "false memories" it produces, like how it does to irl teens in some way.

I think I have a theory and the theory is that Riley's parents died in the car crash so they put her into the adoption center and got adopted by the dad and mom and a couple years later they got in a car crash recently so Riley remembers the car crash before she was adopted and that's why fear said "I remember that Siren" because the Hospital car made the noise

My theory is that this dark entity represents depression. I believe that's psychosis, and the ball is a false memory, which is then what traumatized riley, because with an educated guess we could assume that trauma would be more suited as an island than an emotion, Because although you feel traumatized, it doesn't resonate with you in everyday life, it would stay locked away until something triggers you to remember something that traumatized you, hence joy Saying it's not a new emotion, and he's existed for months, we could ALSO assume that the accident DID happen, but psychosis made it so that riley's parents died in the accident, but her mother is well and alive but her father's whereabouts are still unknown, PLUS Riley's mother was asking if she took her medicine, which is probably what's been suppressing her psychosis, but she forgot, or maybe psychosis paved a way to convince her not to, (p.s he probably used nostalgia to make the false memory)
