I'd like to see a group of people who are referred to as "Retros". People who protest against 'modern' tech in MegaCityOne, primarily things like robots, and want to move back to a earlier state as a society where everyone uses less automated technology and more manual-operated analog stuff. Their justification for this is that this would provide more jobs for everyone. Most members of the Retro faction are peaceful in their actions, sometimes just doing things like refusing to use any modern tech in their daily lives, kinda like the Amish in RL. Unfortunately, some Retros are willing to resort to violence and actions like industrial sabotage in order to destroy robots and factories that are doing jobs that they feel should be being done by humans. This, naturally, brings them into conflict with the Judges. :) The other thing I'd like to see is a speculative "future" MegaCityOne where humanity is able to start moving into space. What happens when people start colonizing the solar system and crime starts moving out of the easy reach of the Judges? What happens when people who live away from MegaCityOne start to feel that the old rules no longer apply to them? What happens when the colonies of Earth declare their independence, free from the laws and control of the Judges? =^x^=

Regarding the film adaptation of Lord of the Rings, your concept of the scene where everyone is waiting for Gandalf does exist while they are traveling through Moria. They reach a junction and Gandalf can't remember which path to take so they wait around a while to see if he remembers. During this time is when Frodo and Gandalf have their insightful conservation about Gollum and life. Very interesting interview. It is good to hear that Judge Dredd and the other 2000AD characters are in such good hands. I have to disagree with you over Anderson. Yes, she did lose her primary weapon (and get taken hostage) which results in a fail. But, what happens next? She doesn't give up. She kills Kay and escapes, kills the corrupt Judge Kaplan, rescues Dredd from Lex and then goes on the offensive against Ma-Ma. When they come across the Clan Techie, she butts heads with Dredd saying that her assessment isn't over and that she is still entitled to dispense justice. As far as she is concerned, she has failed but she's continuing with what she's committed to doing. That's why Dredd passes her. Also, in the comics over time Dredd does change and grow, but it is generally over the course of years rather than a single story or issue.
@Julius_Hardware2 жыл бұрын
Agree totally. She doesn't say it (it would be corny) but she becomes the law. Dredd knows the city needs good judges. So he doesn't like it, but she is a pass. Doesn't mean he will pass the next one though.

Here's my hot take. The Stallone Dredd had a PERFECT MegaCity-1 ... block wars, the futuristic feel, it was wonderful... unfortunately it had Stallone as Dredd. The Karl Urban movie had the PERFECT Dredd, but MegaCity-1 sucked, it was just LA... with a few tall blocks. If only we could take the best of both and merge them! Anyway, that's why I can't write off Stallone's Dredd movie, it's still a window into the Universe that hasn't been as replicated well since.
@cyrus27282 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. The stallone film pissed me off at the time but was way more authentic to mega city one. The carl urban film was a good action film but a few highrise blocks and some "chopper was here" graffiti doenst make a good judge dredd film.
@PropaneWP2 жыл бұрын
I agree. The Karl Urban movie did not have the comic book feel. One thing that the Stallone movie did right was that everything was larger than life. More specifically, edgy, dark and proportionally extreme to the point of becoming satirically comical. The Stallone movie also had a nod to ABC Warriors which I thought was great (ABC Warriors and Dredd canonically exist in the same universe, btw. I don't agree with what's being said about this in the video. From the wiki: "They [ABC Warriors] are the titular heroes of their own series which began before but lived into the far future of Dredd's timeline and have crossed over with various characters from the series").
@aaronleverton42212 жыл бұрын
Stallone didn't suck as Dredd, the writing sucked. He, himself, was pretty good while he had the helmet on. A lot of the problems with that film were the producers/writers insisting on following Hollywood tropes, thus we got Schneider's character and the idea that audiences are paying to see Stallone thus we must "see" Stallone.

I really liked Dredd. Sorry though Lindy I'd have to disagree, Dredd said that losing your primary weapon was a fail...but by the end of the film its clear to Dredd and the audience that Anderson's primary weapon wasn't her gun, it was her psi-abilities...so she still passed.

The line (and subplot) of "losing your weapon" was lifted from a hotdog run into the cursed earth with a squad of rookies in the comics. One of the last surviving cadets loses his weapon but saves dredds life, so he gets a pass.
@lostegg4672 жыл бұрын
@Haiiry Cake Nope, the exception was about her not wearing her helmet. Lindy said that Dredd would have failed her because she lost her weapon. They are currently releasing the Complete Case Files in book format. Any decent bookshop with a graphic novel section should have a couple of volumes in stock. Next time you're there I really recommend picking a volume up and flicking through it to see if what you see catches your eye.

Lats year and a year before that there were big Humble Bundle releases of just a huge amount of 2000AD content, with over half of all the Judge Dredd comics and almost all of the good stuff. They might do another soon, and that'll well be worth buying into, because you can see some of the other things 2000AD does.

I think it's fabulous that you used a much-anticipated crossover opportunity to share an obviously shared passion OTHER than the medieval history content that you're mutually known for. It felt very genuine, and I watched every minute despite knowing little about Judge Dredd.

This got me to watch the movie. I didn't know what Judge Dredd was before this. It's awesome, the absolute gritty nature of the world, and how Dress is a rigid lawful good character. In the comics I saw, the focus on the differences between the peoples is unique among stories in general; I'm thinking of Deeds 2015, the GRASS storyline, here.

Dredd (2012) was one of the greatest highlights of action cinema in... this geological era, and a sequel of it ranks up there with Firefly season 2 for things whose lack is proof that if there is an omnipotent creator it can at best feel merely ambivalent towards us.

The best experience I ever had going to the cinema was when I went to see Dredd (Karl Urban). I got to my seat, lights went down, adverts came on, then the trailers, then the film started. I then realised that I was the only one in the theatre. It was such a great experience having what was essentially a private screening of a fantastic film. But it also made me angry as it meant that the film wasn't making much money, and I later learnt that the studio producing the film did an awful job of advertising it.

I have to disagree about Aragorn not being able to toss a dwarf. Aragorn is a direct descendent of the Numenoreans i.e. Elendil/Isildur. Aragorn was 6'6" and incredibly strong due to his descent and Ranger lifestyle. I mean, Elendil his ancestor was 7'11"! What I'm trying to say is that Aragorn is not merely "Human" as we are. He is practically a meta-human.

Ever tried picking up a healthy, adult pittbull? They are tinny.. you should be able to.. what..? can't lift him from the ground? really? MUST BE ALL THAT MUSCLE... Srsly though, when you look at Gimli imagine that, safe for the belly, all that mass is muscle. From working in the mines, mining metals mainly. And then he's wearing armor too, metal not mithril. Even his stumpy legs must be thick as trunks, considering how they carry all that weight. Even if Aragorn would have had the strength to lift him, on that tiny slope they stood, he'd have fallen. Because physics. But I love the scene so meh.. who cares really.. 😹😹😹

Judge Dredd as a tv-series could be really cool if made as a mockumentary series. Everybody knows the classic reality show Cops from the U.S (with the "Bad Boys" intro song). What if you had a mockumentary show, that featured Dredd and other Judges walking their beats and the drama and action unfolding in a sort if "reality show" perspective?

@sevenproxies42552 жыл бұрын
@@Nickos1b Thank you! I think so too. It's like, the mockumentary format lends itself to a show about cops quite well in my humble opinion. One show that almost did this was The Shield. It didn't feature cut away interviews, but they used a very documentary-like camera work for it, with some purposefully shaky footage and a low amount of cuts. Especially during action scenes. So what I have in mind is basically the mockumentary style of shows like The Office and Parks and Recreation, with some cut away interviews mixed in with the regular scenes. But not a "comedy" show, but one that takes the world of Judge Dredd seriously. In my minds eye, it would be quite immersive, and having that nod towards "Cops" just heighten the mood. I'd want the viewer to not feel like they're watching a sci-fi show, but like they're watching actual law enforcement in action, but with a sci-fi backdrop.

I have to say I'm something of a coinsure of your ads. I might be in the minority who listens to each of them at least on the time I watch your videos. This one was wickedly clever, loved the frantic energy and you even got in the bit about cradles that I've come to expect from each one. A Lindy ad without cradles has a lot of work to do compared to it's cradle-having counterparts. Highly interesting content as always. I hope we get some updates about your friend who's fighting in Ukraine. I hope he makes it out ok.

I don't think Frodo thinking of the riddle is so bad. They're still dependent on Gandalf's wealth of knowledge, and we see that Frodo is clever enough to survive the journey. Another reason to like the main character is a decent tradeoff for pure accuracy. We know from Bilbo that his family should be smart enough to figure out a riddle.
@spyone48282 жыл бұрын
That's kinda Lindy's point: they changed it from a scene where everyone depends on Gandalf to do thinky part followed by the loss of Gandalf to a scene that shows that Gandalf isn't necessary followed by the loss of Gandalf. When Gandalf falls with the Balrog, the audience reaction should be ... insert Hudson from Aliens: "That's it, man. Game Over."
@girhen2 жыл бұрын
I think that saying 'Gandalf isn't necessary' is a huge overstatement. Regardless of whether Frodo is intelligent or not, they were 9 people marching toward literal armies that just lost a wizard - only one of five known to exist in the world. Let's be honest, Gandalf was 3/4 their strength and 3/4 their knowledge. One glimmer of wisdom from Frodo didn't overshadow how much Gandalf knew from many millennia of existence. Even without him being their only path to wisdom, Gandalf's 'death' weighed heavy on the Fellowship and broke a glue that held them together. It still felt pretty close to game over - everything Gandalf offered overshadowed one interaction. Having one little glimmer of hope that your may or may not actively remember may have made Galadriel's message a little stronger. Frodo was capable of changing the future. I don't think "we lost everything" is necessarily a more desirable viewpoint than showing the main character has something to work with. Develop your character - show they're useful and improving. Otherwise, it might have felt like Daenerys suddenly being evil. Insufficient development feels... unsatisfyingly convenient.
