Legend. He really gets it too, I like what he said about the Mustangs and Camaros, and the old Fords turning into a wealthy man thing. It really goes a long way to have a person from the older generation respect how and why the younger hot rudders are doing what they do.

What a great documentary short film! He’s your uncle? I remember him in Hot Rod Deluxe insert magazine that featured the Burbank Choppers. I still have it somewhere. The art section had “The Pizz” and a few other cool artists along with Robert. I think he was with his Ford at Bobs Big Boy in the article. Super cool work on the films as always Ben!

I wish I still had the van issue of CARtoons from when I was a kid. He did a strip with coochie cooty and a deranged doctor ( or something) and the misadventure in their custom van. That and my dad's zap comics warped me at an early age.

A lot of hot rod royalty here with Robert, Pete and Jake, P-wood, Roth, etc. Didn't know Robert was your uncle. Pretty cool to have that heritage. I remember in the early 90's when he showed up at Bob's Big Boy with the new paint job. Everybody (including me) kind of freaked out and didn't understand why he "ruined" the bitchin' Deuce roadster he had. After all, it was the famous "Aces and Eights" car that everybody knew. I now understand why but being a traditional guy, I still prefer the previous look. Great to hear him talk about how he came to CA and worked with Roth. I was a huge Zap comics fan in the 70's too.

Nicely made video, and Robert Williams is a pioneer of the low brow artists, but I recently did some extensive research on the Rat Rod subject. In 1993 one of the members of the Shifters used the term Rat Rod, and it is in print. Baskerville's article didn't come out until 5 years later. A lot of people owned primered cars in the 1970's and 80's while waiting for a paint job. Doesn't mean that their cars were Rat Rods.

A friend of mine knew Von Dutch in his later years. He was kind of hiding out, working as a security guard was the story, and had become really, really racist. He gave my friend, who gave to me, a lot of classic 1960s/70s racist material by George Lincoln Rockwell and others, comic books and cartoons and stuff, some of which were actually kind of funny but awfully racist. I forget what I did with the stuff. But yeah the last years of Von Dutch were not pretty.
