@@denset5099 He doesn’t end up spending any person’s $1.6mill, the bank has to compensate for those losses through their own profits and they can’t compensate it through their client’s funds. It would be illegal for them to just use their clients funds and tell them “oh well your money is gone, your savings is now $10k less for no reason”. Also, remember that all the money that was being withdrawn was in the name of his own account and not someone else’s, so all the surplus money was coming from the huge money reserves that the bank has.

The bank tried to hide the fact that their ATM machines were faulty and they didn't have a clue, that's why they did not press charges initially, but he couldn't keep he's mouth shut, he had to exposed them, making them spend a lot more money fixing the bug in all their ATM and in PR.

The reason they didn't accept him turning himself in the beginning iz because he didn't do anything illegal. Banks basically send deposits and lend out money in there. So essentially it works like a duplication method. So every time they deposit money, that deposit amount add up over and over again. So with the use of credit cards, you can essentially transfer credit over and over again. Now obviously there's more detail, but essentially he didn't do anything illegal. Banks have the same similar method except with deposits. And anyone can actually do the same thing if you actually do some research. And it is protected by law and legally protected at the same time, which is also 2 different things.
