Jury Dimitri Chechi was named after cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin. He won the Olympics title in the rings at Atlanta 1996 and was third at Athens 2004. Chechi's bronze was the result of his attempted comeback into the sport at the age of 35, well above what is considered the average age of a male gymnast.
Chechi dominated his specialty, the rings, during the nineties, so he was nicknamed "the Lord of the Rings"; however, he could not participate in the Barcelona 1992 and Sydney 2000 Olympic games due to serious injuries. He has won five gold and two bronze medals at the World Gymnastics Championships and four gold and two bronze medals at the European Championships.
Born : 11 October 1969
Height : 1.65 m (5 ft 5 in)
Weight : 60 kg (132 lb)
Country : Italy

I followed some of this guy's seminars on calisthenics, he's so strong it's almost ridicolous lmao. He effortlessy talks, explaining how to do pretty darn difficult exercises, WHILE doing those exercises, without even sounding a little bit out of breath and long after he retired from olympic gymnastics. Fucking amazing.

Calisthenics athletes are better in a lot of ways than gymnasts and there are calisthenics athletes that are better than a lot of gymnasts like Manuel Caruso, scarxlus, viktor Kamenov, ziolus, etc But I still think that gymnasts are a little more skilled but wait till the future calisthenics has evolved

One thing about Yuri, his real strength in my opinion, are his mindset, his determination: even after major injuries, so bad to end careers, he always came back. Who had the chance to meet him in person knows how he is, he has this calm aura and joking attitude, yet he's unrelentless in pursuing his goals. His last comeback in 2004 was not supposed to happen. He was basically unofficially retired when in 2003 his father got seriously ill and fighting for his life, while he was unconscious Yuri was talking to him, like we all would do with a loved one we don't want to let go. It was then that he said "Babbo" (Dad in Tuscan dialect) if you recover I will compete in the next Olympics, I know you hear me, shake my hand if you want me to." and than he felt his father's hand move against his. His father recovered and Yuri went back to train setting his goal to be qualification, he not only qualified, he won the bronze, at 34. Still today he says he's not sure whether he dreamed his father's hand to shake his or it did happened for real. His father use to say "of course he's done it, he promised me". Yuri is one of a kind for sure.
