Jack Robertson first off there's no "stupid or not" to it because as I said I'm not even close to stupid. Second of all what fucking trailer park did you get your damn education from???? Anytime you can use the term YOU ARE and it make sense when you use it then that means YOU'RE using YOU'RE correctly. YOU ARE (you're) the stupid one (sorry your the stupid one. I meant to put it as your in the parentheses) for not knowing how to use the word properly. So dont sit your hypocritical ass there and call.me stupid. It's YOU'RE definitely tone deaf. Not YOUR definitely tone deaf. Because you can use you are tone deaf as well and it still make sense. And bitch im as close to tone deaf as I am stupid. I'm not even close to the definition of tone deaf nor stupid. And the way I see it if somebody makes bad music they don't.make music at all. They make bad shit. EDIT 2 : after reading some of the comments and doin a little more digging it is about schizophrenia ( which is a type of ID disorder) that was pretty bad in his family but has more to do with Bowie’s brother.I read a few comments saying ‘it was about his brother ‘ and someone actually gave a solid explanation as to how it’s about Bowie’s brother. EDIT : damn, never got so many likes for a comment, thanks everyone.the comment by the way is an article and 95 % of it is the article itself that sums up this song and the album that went with it. To the people still saying midge wrote it, please refer to the very start of the thread with my comment. Bowie had a identity disorder , that’s what the song is literally about. No it’s not just ‘ my interpretation ‘ that’s LITERALLY what the song is about. This song is about a man who no longer recognizes himself and feels awful about it. For years, Bowie struggled with his identity and expressed himself through his songs, often creating characters to perform them. On the album cover, Bowie is wearing a dress. Some of the lyrics are based on a poem by Hugh Mearns called The Psychoed: As I was going up the stair I met a man who was not there He wasn't there again today I wish that man would go away Some lyrical analysis: "We passed upon the stair" is a figurative representation of a crossroads in Bowie's life, where Ziggy Stardust catches a glimpse of his former self, (being David Bowie) which he thought had died a long time ago. Then he (the old David Bowie) says: "Oh no, not me. I never lost control." This indicates that Bowie never really lost sight of who he was, but he Sold The World (made them believe) that he had become Ziggy, and he thought it was funny (I laughed and shook his hand). He goes on to state, "For years and years I roamed," which could refer to touring. "Gaze a gazely stare at all the millions here" are the fans at concerts. >> The album is one of Bowie's least known, but over the years many fans have come to appreciate it and a lot of bands have covered songs from it. Critics weren't always sure what to make of it either, but John Mendelssohn had a good handle on it when he wrote of the album in Rolling Stone magazine, 1971: "Bowie's music offers an experience that is as intriguing as it is chilling, but only to the listener sufficiently together to withstand the schizophrenia."

Curt's guitar on this was spot on. And his inflexion and understanding of the lyrics is amazing. It's a simple song but very complex in delivery I love Bowies version, but I like this one the best. Two great talents, one great song..

I recently installed a mod for Skyrim. I think it was called Alternate Skyrim Music or something like that, basically replaced the soundtrack with rock n roll, this song tends to play in towns and taverns, awesome track to Bob your head to as you forge some daedric armour or walk around picking up quests, until that mod I had no idea cobain had covered a bowie classic
@StoriesBehindTheSongs6 ай бұрын
The song was originally composed by David Bowie in one thousand nine hundred seventy, and years later, several musicians covered the song including the band Nirvana in one thousand nine hundred ninety-three, whose performance for MTV Unplugged made it an iconic song tinged by the dark and melancholic personality of Kurt Cobain. The song was marked as a bittersweet memory when the following year the singer made the decision to end his existence, causing the general public to attribute a premonitory meaning to the lyrics.

I never was a Nirvana fan, though I tried to understand their popularity, even forced myself to listen to their biggest hits. But I am a David Bowie fan, and I must say that Nirvana's version is superior by far. Great job, Kurt. How I wish I knew you better. RIP, my friend.

i literally woke up with kurt cobain voice playing in my head on loop, im not tryna spiritual or whatever but i honestly never thought of kurt cause i thought he was grunge or some shit cause i only like 50s to 92s rock/metal, and kurts jus so angelic no homo, i have been listening to nirvana for hours an im sad but amazed i havnt took the time to hear him, hes definilty not grunge this man was definitely rock, aside from mike Hutchins i reckon they was the last true Rockstar's, rip kurt ill have plenty more music an partys to play on nirvana

This track paints a picture of a man who has traveled the world, searching for a place. His journey is long and lonely, and he has gone long enough that the people he left behind (including the speaker of the song) have assumed he has died. However, he eventually finds himself "face to face with the man who sold the world" - a phrase that suggests his own level of self-discovery and understanding. The song speaks of perseverance despite being faced with difficult and uncertain times, and of ultimately finding a sense of peace and acceptance in the end.

Kurt was not proud of his choice to sell his soul.... it's sad, you can hear the pain in his voice for the choices he made. He leaves little things for those who know how the world really works. He did it in such a brilliant way too. Ultimately that's why things ended how they did for him. I can almost feel his pain when he's singing.

It's actually a David Bowie song nirvana covered, but this is a quote from mr.Bowie “I was simply blown away when I found that Kurt Cobain liked my work, and have always wanted to talk to him about his reasons for covering ‘The Man Who Sold the World’” and that “it was a good straight forward rendition and sounded somehow very honest.” He added: “It would have been nice to have worked with him, but just talking with him would have been real cool.” -David Bowie I bet they got to have that chat
