Still a big win for him cuz he got away with it and lived a billionaire life for so long till old, however, this dude's talents and skills prob would have gotten him billions legitimately without having to steal and scam.
@notroll12796 жыл бұрын
Not really. His "talents and skills" basically were scamming. When he was a young stock broker he went through a short bear market - and his clients' portfolios suffered as anybody else's. So his "talents and skills" in his actual business were quite average - he just decided to invest his own savings into his reputation by retro-engineering some deals that would have been profitable (had they been authentic). Financially, he wiped himself out in the process. And then he saw the light, stopped ploughing in his own money and set up a Ponzi scheme. As an average portfolio manager, he might have made a few millions on Wall Street over the years but not have risen to the status he achieved by fraud.

The three-digit jail sentences are political statements to the public. With the so-called "Hannibal Lecter", it was to show that "we punish the scary evil doer to get your gullible votes." With Madoff, the message was: "try to steal from the rich and the powerful and you'll die in jail." E.g. bankers never got punished.

Karma is where you are reincarnated into another person or animal when you die depending on how good you were in a previous life, so a good man might be reincarnated as a wealthy person or even a god; however a murderer might be reborn as a rat or a goat or something.

well if you can think of a better system, go ahead and make a proposal. various financial systems are much more complex then you might think. Just because currency value doesn't match your "evaluation" of what you think, or what you have been told to think it should be. doesn't necessarily mean there is anything shady going on, I mean what do u want us to do? go back to collecting shiny rocks to trade amongst one another?

It's insane to put people in prison for such a long time without any chance for them.

ХОРОШО I don’t think you understand the gravity of what he did. He stole EVERYTHING people had. People killed themselves because they went from worth tens of millions to NOTHING. Charities lost their money, he stole from family, he destroyed THOUSANDS of retirements, forcing people who worked hard to retire to have to work into old age

Why is it that when the fiancial industry causes the loss of several trillion dollars for lower and middle class it is considered okay but this is unethical? This guy tricked rich super people into giving him money and even gave a bunch of it to charity. He seems cool.

The Madoff story is yet another illustration of how greed can blind people. Folks believe what they want to believe ignorer to fit their own narrative and appeal to their own avarice. There are so many examples of people willing to overlook the obvious signs in order to meet their own expectations.

Im late af to this, but I got the chance to meet and talk to Bernie/Peter at Glen Oaks Country Club a couple months before they got investigated. The club is in Old Westbury, Long Island NY. At the time I was the new locker room assistant and was 15-16 years old. His brother - Peter was a member of the club and would bring Bernie as a guest to play golf, have dinner, etc. Bernie came off as a very respectful, down to earth, and generous guy which made the arrest all the more shocking throughout our workplace. To this day, me and other staff still laugh at how we all perceived Bernie to be the more kind and "not as cheap with staff" as opposed to his brother lmaoo.

bail is not a get out of jail pass. Its earnest money in a sense, so when you set bail that means you will get the money back when you go to jail, but if you skip out and leave the country or something, the government will keep your money
