In the documentary it is made clear that most people who chose him chose him for other things then the blue eyes and the blond hair. He is an intelligent man, was a teacher, so seemed trustworthy and he had medical documents to show everything was allright. The looks were a nice bonus after the parents thought he was a good match. The documentary makers made that part huge, because they showed this man with long blond hair every time that little part was mentioned. So that sticks to your mind. It's maybe helpful to know that it is always suggested by doctors in fertility, that when you choose a donor, you best choose one with the looks of one of the parents, because that way it is easier for the growing up child to feel a real part of the family. It's about the possible psychological effects of the choice you make at that moment in time. His looks are very common in many parts of Europe and especially in the Netherlands where he donated most. So it's not about having the picture perfect family. And off course these parents are mad about the number of children. It's not about jealousy, or wanting to be special. These parents chose for a child with the responsibility that comes with it. Wanting the donor to only donate for a limited amount of families is about choosing for something that is psychologically healthy for the children. Therefore they made agreements with the donor about how many children there would be in total. It's good to realise that the red flags that are visible now, were not there until 3 years ago or so. And he is already donating for 17 years now. So what you see now, is not what most parents could see. The punishment was a fine for every new donation. As you say, the hard thing is to prove that he is still donating. You're suggestion is a great one, but I guess it has no place in Dutch law.

It was very random women started noticing that their kids looked the same ! That’s how many he had. They started a FB group and suddenly so many women joined.

It's not weird that they want a kid with blonde hair and blue eyes because they are Dutch. It is their ethnic heritage. It's like being mad a black moms for choosing a donor that is black. Obviously what he did was wrong and there needs to be better regulations around donations, including international databases with genetic testing.

I thought it was weird that it was the only criteria. From what I saw in the documentary they did not really check his medical or even criminal background

Blonde hair and blue eyes are very specific traits. It narrows the possible donor selection. These women seemed to only care about looks, anyway. It didnt seem like they were concerned with his intelligence, character, mental health and medical history, etc.
